Let's presume Disney went ahead and bought Nintendo as they'd always wanted.
They want Mickey to be a Pokémon.
Mickey is now a Pokémon.
His art style is entirely different, his design has no rhyme or reason, but despite all that he'd still be an official Pokémon.
The way things are drawn do not make them any less Pokémon. By that reasoning Hoopa Unbound should be a Yugioh.

the best way to make a fakemon without unconsciously make clones of already existing ones is trying random article in wikipedia and make a pokemon out of that.
the only rule is not repicking an article if you got weird shit

Politician = fucking debating about how the world should be run. "Pika-pi, pikachu pikachu" doesn't carry over so well. My point is that it's not a very inspiring concept. It doesn't immediately put ideas in my head for the design, while suggestion of a honey bear, chef pokemon or a papier mache pokemon might.

If you want to create a fakemon, what i do is research new and unique species and learn what makes them special, finding a way to connect them to pokemon. But you can get inspiration from objects or pop culture too.

The problem with that is that you have to change the design to fit your region and need to standardize all our work. Then we practically don't get credit because of the sheer amount of people that have contributed and worked on one entry.

Because from what I've seen from so many Fakemon projects is that they take most Gen 5 criticisms like "NO TRASH POKES" and "NO OBJECTS/HUMANOIDS, HAS TO BE ANIMALS" to heart and it turns out nothing like Pokemon.
