When I was like 7, and I was playing Blue over and over, I would remember always having trouble with the Rival battle on the S.S.Anne. Pretty sure I lost that quite a few times.

I had this really shitty habit as a kid of avoiding and running from every battle I could, so i lost plenty of times because of undertrained pokemon.

I've only ever lost to Blue, I lost once during the first Route 22 Battle and several times in the Pokemon League since my team was low Level 50's with shit moves when I was little. I also rarely ever level grinded so that didn't help

The last rival battle I ever lost was over 10 years ago, in gold, against ??? right after defeating Azalea's gym. Dunno why, but that was always a challenging fight for younger-me.
Don't think it gave me any trouble in HGSS.

My two hardest fights as a wee lad were against Blue/DICKS at Nuggest Bridge and the fight with Silver/???/AHOLE after the bird gym or whatever in GSC.

I can't decide if Gen I and II had the best rival battles or if I was just shit then.
