With defiant and sky drop, he's got a unique niche in doubles. He's good in lower tiers in singles, too. I mean you could use him in OU, but you'd usually be better off with Talonflame or Staraptor.

Bad typing. Mandibuzz was pretty well off with Dark/Flying (considering the Dark buffs in XY, at least.) Something like Fighting/Flying or Flying/Steel (with a bit of redesigning) would have made it better.

Passable attack but not enough speed to back it up.

No STABs that complement its best ability (Sheer Force,) though Defiant is a good ability anyway.

Also, fun fact: Defiant is great. +2 Jolly Scarf Brave Bird hits harder than Starpator's Adamant Reckless Banded Brave Bird. If you can get it in on a Defog safely, it wrecks shop.

If it evolved at a lower level and was obtainable much earlier in the game, it might have been used. Both it and Vullaby are found too late and evolve at far too high a level.

Still, though, the only thing that really went wrong was that he evolves at an absurdly high level. But that was a problem with Gen 5 in general.
