Since the focus groups for a video game often aimed at kids contains kids, the kids often can't articulate or understand what difficulty is.
In other words, they build and test the games for their target audience of kids.
The weird thing is what the majority of actual players i've talked to really want is the option for harder difficulty without the hoop jumping bullshit and also with the elements that make the game less tedious.
In general, I personally think that the difficulty should be adjusted based on the existence of the new EXP share, since the thing was added as an afterthought.
