generation 1:
>the founder of the series, creative pokemon designs and unarguably the most immersive and deep storyline

generation 2:
>more of a continuation to generation one than a standalone generation, broken got nerfed, underwhelming pokemon got evolutions and new pokemon were introduced to expand the player's options, series was apparently going upphills, but then...

Generation 3:
>the software is far from pushing the limits of the hardware, the battle background is just colored lines and the graphics are mostly just flat colors, almost no animations are present, despite the console being fully capable of it, new pokemon were introduced, but they were basically just variations of generation 1 pokemon, such as a machop in a yellow bag or a red weedle.

Generation 4:
>Pokemon are either very ugly and unappealing or are made up from basic shapes (lickylicky is basically just a sphere with elipses for arms and legs), physical/special split allows more pokemon to get more power then they should, throwing the metagame into a loop, very lacking story and a bland world

Generation 5:
>horrible storyline and no new region (its basically just mini NYC), pokemon introduced are of very poor design, such as a floating ice cream cone and a trashbag, which would barely pass as pokemon

Generation 6:
>gamefreak realized they suck at making new pokemon so they introduced very few, abeit horrible pokemon, such as a flying sword and a cat with autism, fairy type is introduced, far too late in the game's cycle and brings imbalance to the metagame, the very least memorable storyline and the region is literally just france, very poorly designed (the huge powerplant in the featureless desert)
