Ariados' usefulness peaks at Focus Sash + Sticky Web
I wouldn't hesitate to put the thing in the top 5 worst pokemon in the game. Terrible typing, terrible stats, bad abilities. The only thing it has is a good movepool, but it has nothing to leverage it. It's only going to be useful if it gets a Mega. Adding Knock Off to its movepool is also pretty important. For Ariados to be good it needs the Mawile treatment where its ability lets the 100 boost points be invested elsewhere; an ability like
