since we're talking about shit like this, how about monster rancher? Did anyone play monster rancher 3 for ps2 (and I think gamecube)? That blew my fucking mind, how the monsters were generates, how you could get them to change species based on environment, the battles. 10/10

Did you know that Bandai has made numerous Digivices where "Tamers" are able to pick, and raise their own specific Digibro and customize their evolutions to have them battle others? And I don't mean those shitty fake gimmicky versions. If Bandai actually put more effort into selling those, Digimon would actually be more popular. Unfortunately when they localized the first one in 1997, no one gave a shit unti two years later when the anime came that everybody, minus confused parents and delusional Pokefags, loved and defined the franchise, in which Bandai then decided "Fuck it, Americans are stupid. Just make the merchandise revolve around the show and localize the PS1 games because kids actually play them"

At least Digimon has free range to do whatever they want with designs. I mean you not only have monsters, animals, dinosaurs, insects, knights, angels, demons, robots, mythological creatures and characters, hot females and not feminine looking animals like Pokemon, but random shit like a talking piece of shit, a cosplayer with a big bulge, a midget dinosaur made of legos (ToyAgumon), a humanoid cowboy revolver (Revolvermon/Deputymon), and a midget t-rex dressed as a soldier carrying an AK-47, (Commandramon) while all Pokemon is is "Hey what defining feature does an animal or an object have? Monster Rancher was never on the GC. I played all of the mainseries from 1 to EVO( Fuck EVO tho) including the handheld series as well.

Bandai Namco Holdings completely owns Sunrise and Gundam is their property as well. Needless to say all companies from their content SBU (including Bandai Namco Games) have full access to it, at least in Japan.

However, you're right in regards to Super Sentai, as it's owned by Toei.

There is also Super Robot Wars, which is great even when using only the Original Generation characters - created by Banpresto, which is now also wholly owned by BNH.

There are also some of the other Namco titles, such as Pac-Man, Galaga, Xevious, Tekken and the Soul series. There is also the Tales series, originally by the Namco Tales Studio, another BNH subsidiary.

Nope, not true. Digimon never would've been as big as Pokemon. Pokemon is the perfect money-making franchise. It's simple, universal, easily marketable, and basically takes advantage of players' emotions. Digimon should've been bigger than it was, sure, but it could never have really sunk itself into the world like Pokemon did.

Each main Pokemon game is designed so it can instill the sense of adventure, journey, growth along side the addiction of collection and competition. The simpler designs and very basic characters and stories allow for the easiest access for new players. Any main Pokemon game can function as a perfect starting point for any new player, they are easy to understand and play.

SIMULTANEOUSLY, the simplicity and homogeneity of the main Pokemon games plays directly into players feelings of nostalgia and childhood. Every time you start a new game you get the same feelings of those humble beginnings panning out into an adventure of growth. You literally and figuratively start out as a child in the game, just as you did when you were an actual child in real life playing one for the first time, and by the end you are basically the hottest shit in the region. You collect a bunch of new pets that you raise up from their weaker beginnings to make into your best buds steamrolling losers.

This is what makes the Pokemon games unbeatable and why most people that have ever played a Pokemon game keep playing Pokemon games for a long time. Pokemon has turned the feelings that drive people to replay old games or hold onto things from their childhood and turned them into something they can sell over and over again. They are the McDonalds and Walmart of video games, a product of easy understanding and accessibility that is generally the same no matter where you go. Digimon has the roots of some of this but it was never quite there

Most gundam games didn't make it to the wast and Sunrise refuses to license any new gundam Anime to any US station unless they pay for EVERYTHING from Mobile Suit Gundam to Turn A which was never dubbed and therefor no US TV station will never buy.

Digimon went for the same target audience as Pokemon but appealed to less of it pretty much. They made all the mons look tougher and edgier and by doing so trimmed the audience to young/early teenage boys predominantly.

They also couldn't get their shit together with the games. Pokemon from the very start has had a set of games that dictated the direction of the anime and the flow of the series in general. Each new saga of the show was based on the previous set of games. You were watching Ash and Pikachu go through places you've been to, capturing and fighting pokemon that you have.

Digmon just had a jumble of rumbles, races and card games. It was the wavefront. Ready to crash as soon as the next slightly edgy cartoon aimed at young/teen boys appeared (Yu-gi-oh, beyblade etc)

Not saying their games, or their show, were bad. But at no point in it's history did it ever feel complete or substantial as a franchise. They let the show take over the games and when that happened, there was only so much success they could garner from it.
