You can however trade evolve over the GTS if you have two games and one 3ds.

No, you can't. The pokémon is inserted directly in your box, so when you open the game, the mon is already there, so it doesn't configure a trade, therefore it won't evolve. Don't listen to this fag >>22449130

Single DS trading via GTS is extremely risky though.

It helps if you use legendaries as your transfer chips but I have actually lost a 5IV Dusknoir for an Yveltal once so yeah, be fast and be careful. Having bank will help in putting your mons back in their proper places though.

I just put up a trade on the receiving end of the game asking for the mon I want to evolve and offering a shitmon. Then I switch cartridges, search my own trade on the GTS, trade, and do it in reverse. The only thing I risk is one of my breeding rejects.
