I appreciate the analysis of all sorts of pokemon, movesets, and whatnot, but I don't really appreciate their over-reactions to certain aspects of the game.

After the swagger claus, that sort of just tore it. I look for singles advice, but ever since I started playing vgc, I much more like that. You learn to counter things originally perceived as broken. Now mega Kang is nothing to me.

you know what, that is an excellent point. I forgot that most pokemon are less op in doubles.
Still though, some things about Smogon I just don't really see eye to eye on. Instead of rolling with the new metas, they try banning anything that threatens the current/former meta too roughly. This may sound exaggerated, bt only to an extent.

You see, not only that, but smogon is really afraid of scenarios where your first pokémon out rips through 3-4 of the oponent's pokémon before fainting. In VGC, you only carry 4 pokémon. That is one duo that is out, and one replacement duo. Getting a lucky turn means you take out 1-2 of the oponent's pokémon without taking much damage, that is half his team. it's perfectly natural for things in VGC doubles to play out in 7-15 turns, whereas singles should take a long time. It's just a different meta thing.

I feel that way about pokemon I dont even use or like. I dont want shit like ninja frog, firebird, or ghost sword going away just because some dumbass cant beat them

Anyway, I recently started playing VGC and it is startling to see how much difference in thinking there is in that meta. People just learn to roll with the punches and adapt. And all that in a more haxy meta, too. The amount of crits, full paras, flinches and whatnot in VGC is astounding, and yet no one cries about it. Not even when you get fucked over by scarf smeargle with dark void and end up getting two pokémon fast asleep.

Absolutely agree. This gen smogon has been completely retarded with the order of their suspects, and that made the meta stupidly unbalanced. UU is pretty fun, this time around, though. Give that a try.

Crits aren't banned because the rules need to be playable on cart, so directly changing game mechanics is a no go. Similar reasoning as to why PS only reports the opponents HP to the accuracy of a 48th, like it does in game with HP bars being 48px.

Well for starters, if you started competitive battling in the fourth gen where your in game teams have started to just become relevant you would practically have no other choice but to play someone from Smogon seeing as they were an active community dedicated to Singles battles.

At this time Pokemon that were banned were under good circumstances.

Following into the fifth gen where you can battle online without FC's they weren't that big of a deal.

Problem is, if you want to battle competitively in haste time it's best to go to Smogon. Recently they have doubled bans on Pokemon with a base stat yield of 600 or less.. This is a tad bit frustrating for casual players to follow seeing as a lot of strategies some people used before the bans are now banned.

Smogon players are a tad bit strict on their regulations and forget that Pokemon to others is just a game. Some players who abide by Smogon rules will DC or insult other players that break those rules.

Other things are certain sets made by the site itself. Some Smogonites don't acknowledge indifferences to those sets as viable. Some of them have a terrible attitude with how they present their reciprocation to those sets. Making them sound arrogant and rude. ( I once told a guy over the voice chat that I don't care if a weather team isn't viable in NU and he persisted to state his opinion when I finally told him it's just a game..)

Another thing is that people who hate Smogon are Smogon players themselves. When a Pokemon is overused and then is banned obviously the people who are using it are going to get upset.

I mean I can see why they can be hated, they're a democracy within a Pokemon game... I mean come on, Ned Flanders has more charisma than that.
