Okay, I'm fucking tired of Smogon's bullshit. I finally finish breeding, tutoring, and EV training a 6IV Greninja, and lo and behold, I find out that Smogon is about to ban it even though literally any strong STAB attack counters it. Talk about a fucking waste of time.

Well for starters, if you started competitive battling in the fourth gen where your in game teams have started to just become relevant you would practically have no other choice but to play someone from Smogon seeing as they were an active community dedicated to Singles battles.

At this time Pokemon that were banned were under good circumstances.

Following into the fifth gen where you can battle online without FC's they weren't that big of a deal.

Problem is, if you want to battle competitively in haste time it's best to go to Smogon. Recently they have doubled bans on Pokemon with a base stat yield of 600 or less.. This is a tad bit frustrating for casual players to follow seeing as a lot of strategies some people used before the bans are now banned.

Smogon players are a tad bit strict on their regulations and forget that Pokemon to others is just a game. Some players who abide by Smogon rules will DC or insult other players that break those rules.

Other things are certain sets made by the site itself. Some Smogonites don't acknowledge indifferences to those sets as viable. Some of them have a terrible attitude with how they present their reciprocation to those sets. Making them sound arrogant and rude. ( I once told a guy over the voice chat that I don't care if a weather team isn't viable in NU and he persisted to state his opinion when I finally told him it's just a game..)

Another thing is that people who hate Smogon are Smogon players themselves. When a Pokemon is overused and then is banned obviously the people who are using it are going to get upset.

I mean I can see why they can be hated, they're a democracy within a Pokemon game... I mean come on, Ned Flanders has more charisma than that.

One difference is, with Smogon, your votes don't actually count if they disagree. It was either Gengar or Mawile, but they said that any posts defending the Pokémon (opposition to banishment) would be deleted, no questions asked.

I'm not saying I agree with the reasoning, but in a meta where swagger was banned for being luck dependent, I can see the reasoning being stretched that Greninja is both luck oriented and over centralizing.

If Greninja kills off a playstyle, so be it. Some playstyles just wasn't meant to exist in Pokemon.

Besides, Smogon isn't allowed to use it as an argument when they killed off several playstyles themselves, such as Evasion and Swagger.

Pokemon that shouldnt have been banned in the first place. With all the new megas they wouldn't even be as powerful now and probably fall into UU.
If smogon had any brains they'd unban these with blaziken.

Zone and Thorn have more uses than just stopping a single Pokemon.

Skuntank's ONLY use would be to stop Greninja.
This falls apart when

Now if Skuntank had more niches under his belt besides being a Greninja counter, then maybe he will work. But sadly that's not the case.

Psychic, Sludge Wave, Earth Power, Rock Slide, Earthquake, Knock Off, Grass Knot, Superpower, U-Turn, HP (Ice/Fire/etc), Stealth Rock, Rock Polish, Swords Dance

It's a pain for teambuilding considering if you don't have something faster that can OHKO, you'll lose a good chunk of your team or get swept.

I rarely ever have problems with Lando-T, but Lando-I is a menace.

It's typing is pretty unique, has great coverage moves and one of them is priority. You can clean up weakened teams with it or hit the things in ou that don't like dark type moves hard.
I don't expect someone who only uses the top 10 mons to understand that.

For all the accusations of favoritism that Smogon gets, the detractors seem way more interested in banning complex shit just to prevent a certain Pokemon from going to Ubers.

Gen 4 Garchomp got banned instead of Garchomp + Sand Stream. Excadrill got banned instead of Excadrill + Sand Stream. Landorus-I got banned instead of Sheer Force Lando-I. Drizzleswim and Baton Pass are the only complex bans they've done and that's because they're both viable strategies that have a big effect on the tier. It's not worth banning Protean/Speed Boost to save one Pokemon who will drop to UU or lower.

Chesnaught is the biggest counter to Mega Gyarados, who is arguably the best DDer in the tier right now, aswell are being able to wall pretty much every physical attacker, especially Bisharp, Lando-T, Excadrill, TTar and Terrakion while Skuntank loses to them all and the only notable thing it has is beating Lati@s, it barely beats Ferrothorn as it can't even 3HKO it, Scizor can come through Poison Jab mispredicts/Voltturn/something dying and set up a SD, bulk a Flamethrower and OHKO Skuntank

Skuntank loses to way too much shit in OU and AV just removes any amount of viability it will ever have there

That's the thing, Scyther is literally the only good user of Aerial Ace

There are some pokemon who can use it as a niche move (AA Crawdaunt to beat Chesnaught), but it's still really bad

Hail is a shitty weather and Ice types are also horrible and it's not breaking users of Minimize like Chansey since it's the best special wall in the game

The biggest problem tbh was giving Chansey/Clefable Minimize and such a good movepool to abuse it with, other users are kinda shit

But anyway, Offensive SD set runs through Skuntank as Scizor bulks Fire Blast with very little Sdef investment, ofc it's easily revenged but it's just showing that it /can/ be a free sweep for Scizor
