And the weather thing wasn't a gimmick, it was a feature and was as idiotic as removing day and night when they didn't put it in the next games.

Gen 5 was 9/11. Those sprites were hideous, and so was the region. It took the worst bits about america and japan and fused them together

It had great Poke designs but also shittiest ones. Garbodor and Vanilluxe come to mind, or better say, they're always in my mind whenever I think of Gen 5.
Also starters, what the fuck's wrong with them I don't really know but I hate them just like everyone does.

Music? Alright.

Region was just alright, tho it was great in BW2. Maybe even the best.

Plot was just average. But average means great for a Pokemon game, so yeah.

America influence - that got nothing to do with the games, except Braviary. At least 70% of people should've been obese to at least give us an idea where the region is based.

Gen 5, as it stands, is definitely my favorite. I've had most of my bros come from this gen more than any other. Also totally love the Yin Yang theming with Zekrom and Reshiram. Favorite title legends to date. Some of the pokemon designs were kinda shitty (starters were unimpressive to most, monkeys were lame and patrat's fucking trash), but the later half of the dex more than made up for it.

That being said, like most people are saying, the region wasn't fun until BW2. Routes weren't as memorable as in, say, Hoenn.

But to answer your question, I think it's a combination of a lot of things. They don't look as "developed" as some other pokemon, have a very strong goofy vibe and are generally not very powerful. They're not the sorts of designs that would appeal to the masses.

Cant tell if I liked the first or second ones better.

The theming, atmosphere and character designs I preffered in the first, but that gen2 tier music, better map and PWT were pretty damn cool too.

Darmanitan,Stoutland,Bisharp,Golurk,Chandelure, Druddigon* yes i like druddi* Scolipede,Sawk/Throh,Conkeldurr, Audino * possibly my favorite normal type besides dunsparce*,Excadrill, Gigalith, Galvantula and etc. Also my favorite overall Gym Leaders like Roxie and FUCKING Drayden.

Only real bad point of 5 is that the starters are shit. I have no issues with Garbodor * actually like it * and Vanilluxe

Gen 5 is my absolute favorite, but I'm not blind enough to disregard criticism.

the majority of the pokemon in 5th gen were literally straight up retcons of 1st/2nd gen pokemon.

There are a few gems like Volcarona, but 5th gen is easily the worst in terms of design. The enemy team was literally tree hugging faggots. I don't know if it's worse than 4th gen but 5th is probably up there for being the worst generation.

Gen v was one of the only gens to have their gym leaders actually relevant in the endgame .7 Leaders vs 7 Sages would have been pretty awesome if shown in better detail. My current favorite gens are 2 and 6. I felt like the pokemon designs, region layout, and light story made these two more enjoyable to play for extended periods/replays especially. Honestly, the worst part of gen 5 was that the story wants to interrupt the gameplay every five minutes.

Because it was like starting all over again. It felt very fresh. I'm starting a randomizer run of B2 to try and recapture that.

Also helped that the designs were good, had the fewest shitmons, and the game had more unique typings than any other so far.

Am I the only one who was seriously disappointed that Gamefreak didn't continue in the same direction as BW and make the Kalos region filled exclusively with new pokemon (until post-game)?

I left kept myself far away from spoilers until BW was released, so every pokemon save for the heavily marketed ones were brand new to me as I went through the game. I hadn't had that much fun playing since RB.

It's such a shame that Unova is a shit-tier region. In terms of challenge, region, music, exploration, post-game (PWT is cool but muh frontier, Gen 4 battle factory was THE shit), and all other stuff Platinum was better.

It sucks we didn't get a remake in Gen 5 since it has the best mechanics. Platinum on a Gen 5 engine would be ideal. But as it stands, the objectively best Pokemon games are the ROMhacks Blaze Black 2/Volt White 2
