I used to be a hardcore Gen 2 fag. When I was a kid, Pokemon Silver was my absolute favorite videogame, and I think it's due to the fact that I arrived super late to the party. Everyone was playing the new Pokemon while I was stuck playing Yellow, until one day I got Silver and holy shit look at these new Pokemon, the new features, the new everything, oh my fuck I can go back to Kanto, it's better than I expected after all the hype. I was blown away, and as I grew older I developed some massive nostalgia goggles. I played Gen 3 a while later, but it just didn't feel as awesome as Gen 2. I never played anything after FireRed. I did replay gens 1, 2 and 3 on an emulator on my PSP, since my old GBA has been dead for a long time.
These days I've been playing SoulSilver, and I've seen the light. I've realized that Gen 2 isn't as great as I always thought it was. Sure it has some of my favorite Pokemon designs, and it introduced some really neat features and mechanics, but overall it's not that great. The region isn't very memorable, the entire Johto section is easy as fuck with those underleveled wild Pkmn and trainers, and the postgame consists of an empty Kanto with nothing to do in it. The battle against Red is great (I shat my pants the first time I battled him and saw he had Pokemon 20+ levels stronger than mine), but other than that the postgame is shit.
Don't get me wrong, I still like it. I've just realized I've been blinded by nostalgia
So consider this thread my apology for all the years I've been defending Gen 2 as the best Gen. I've been a faggot and I was wrong.
I'm sorry, /vp/.
