You can claim it is better all you like, but there wasn't really anymore effort put into it. That much we can agree on. And they would have had to put a lot of work into recreating the Battle Frontier, and for what? Wresting that you can't control? Renting pokemon? More random pokemon?
They added in far more pokemon than ever, new areas to catch them with all the mirage spots. And gave you more incentive to catch pokemon in general with dexnav. I'd say we have it better for that now.
The wrestling thing you didn't get to control. I don't think watching some pokemon wrestle around really added much to the game.
As for renting pokemon it's neat, but with how easy it is to breed and train good pokemon now I think it's kind of pointless.
Battle Maison has more total battles required to get everything from it. And far more battle modes than the Battle Frontier. We didn't just get Ruby and Sapphire without the Frontier.
