The even but heavy steps of the soldier had reached the treeline as she withdrew the pokeball the voice continuing to call out from somewhere, his voice somehow close yet far away.

The voice went silent as the sword pokemon was sent out, the soldier turning the moment the blade flashed to attack, the stab slicing deep into the man's clothing before meeting a heavy crack against the metallic armor hidden under it... Yet at this close of a range it was enough to send his aim everywhere, the gunfire spraying the forest and eventually even the pokemon itself if it wasn't quick enough.

Yet even as the first voice went silent the second called out as well, looming close.
"Nice cases you have there, but you might want to watch your hands."
A flash of steel would be the only warning she'd have before a knife would fly into the second case, knocking it out of her hands unless she was quick enough.

The other man made no move as he awaited the other's attacks, both hands behind his back, but as the rock slide hit and the other made the shot he took action as well, his own pistol coming out as he fired two shots back towards Erco and rolled to the left.

The knife shone in the dim light of the forest, and had Emiko not seen its glint in the corner of her eyes, she could not have reacted fast enough. Quickly, she spun the case-in-hand to intercept, causing the blade to imbed itself in the hard plastic with a resounding "thunk".

He had fired more, before this. She counted a grand total of twenty-five... No, closer to twenty rounds, she wagered. Roughly ten in each burst, give or take. Again, she refused to risk her safety to a glance at her attacker, but she couldn't stay in this brush forever. She had to come up with some plan, some strategy to distract him long enough to land a killing blow.

Silently, she pondered, her breathing slow and measured as she weighted her options. And then, the answer came to her.

"Hey, hey you!" she called out, taking care to throw her voice as much as possible. "Are you using a belt or a drum with your maschinegewehr?"

Wobbuffet changed the game, but unfortunately with shadow tag in effect little could be done. Worse since he did not want to lose excadrill so early on, it was a rather useful component of his team. Regardless, the only way out now was through that punching bag. Make or break,

Considering that this time they couldn't launch a dual attack it went for power, and sped into a spiraling drill run attack on the wobbuffet. It really wasn't a pokemon known for utility, after all.

The knife handle seemed jammed tight into the case, the location well enough that she would have to remove it before opening the case.

The footsteps that had been slowly approaching her seem to halt some distance away as the enemy swept for more targets, the man continuing to carry out his ire on the underbrush and the sword in general with no answer.

Yet as the rounds tore through the scenery again the girl would hear the voice from before, "We have to keep the weight down somehow..." Of course how could she know he was telling the truth, or if it was the very same guy at all?

The voice continued to stall her even as the plans were made to flank her from the side, the distraction from the gunner proving to provide just enough of a cover to get in close.

A light in the darkness. The trademark sound of an MG-42 firing filled the air, as bright green tracers bounced off Durengard's polished gold form, sending a shower of sparks everywhere as her shield bounced back and forth, deflecting the blows. Twenty, maybe thirty rounds she counted. A two-hundred-fifty round belt would be too much for a lone gunner to carry in these dense woods. If her assailant was using a belt, then he would have to reload. if he was using a drum, then she would have to endure for another twenty-five rounds. She heard no sounds indicating that the enemy was reloading, so he must be using a drum. Once more, Durengard assumed the sword-form, charging the enemy, only to be struck down by the last of the twenty-five rounds. It fell, but she had no time to recall it, as a round ricocheted against the falling form of the shield.

Pain.
Pain.
Searing, indescribable pain wracked Emiko's shoulder.
Pain.
Fire.
Blood. She saw a pool of blood begin to form on the ground beside her, staining the dirt and her overcoat a deep scarlet. She was hit. At least one of the bullets from the enemy's weapon had imbedded itself in her shoulder.
Pain. Fire. Blood.
Pain. Fire. Blood.
Her mind raced, and her breathing became ragged. She struggled to remain calm, biting her tongue to prevent from screaming. Her soft, pained whimpers echoed through the forest, and she lay on the ground, clutching the injury with her other hand.

The sounds of a second interloper snapped her out of her pain-filled haze, and she realized that she hadn't the time to curl up and die here. There was still a fight going on. Her breathing became more ragged, as she forced her hand to move to one of the cases. Durengard had fallen, and she needed a new defender, fast. But which one.

She remembered the clang of metal against metal when Durengard last struck her foe, and that memory helped guide her hand. She grabbed the sphere, staining the white underside with her bloody handprint.

That was not all that was in store for the girl though. There had been another stalking her, waiting for the chance to strike. A predator seeking his prey, the prey that rested in a ball the girl possessed. He shifted from where he watched with a nearly silent clank of armor, Teleportation taking hold on him as he warped down to stand behind the smaller figure, size beyond imposing as he held his weapon down against her, just in case she attempted anything else after the hefty barrage from the one attacking her.

"Do not move, little one. I will kill you if I must, but you can survive this yet."

One hand held the giant blade, the other resting on a belt of pokeballs. He would take no chances with them already so close, not with this. He had something to obtain from this, something far greater than what he could have accomplished alone.

This time excadrill was hit a lot harder by the counter, and the hit send him to his knees. Deep furrows were dug into the soil in the creature's attempts to slow its movement, which eventually worked despite its fatigue and pain. Erco wasn't in much position to keep the odd man from retreating.

But the roar of automatic fire brought the bodyguard's vision back over his shoulder. He wasn't sure at the moment if his charge being hurt or the appearance of the knight worried him more, but he knew that both had to be stopped right now.

The Swiss man immediately dumped the mag out of his driving gun and tore a second out of his coat, loading it with precise motions. The tips of these cartridges were black, armor piercing. He had a few other special types, but considering the plate mail, he figured this would be better than incendiary or subsonic. "Get away from her you wretch!"

A burst of automatic fire was put towards Garland's back, time would tell if he was apt enough to evade after appearing. Excadrill launched another drill run at the wobbuffet in a desperate attempt to break the shadow tag, perhaps its last. The trainer and it's pokemon then closed ranks with emiko and her own servant. They were pinned in anyway, this would at least put more focus on himself.

"Come this way!" He called out to Emiko. If nothing else he could buy time, and he only had to stall them up enough for her to escape.

The silence as the last of the rounds seemed to be expended were broken from the sounds of splintering trees and shattering rocks at the Haxorus's beam flew outwards towards the soldier, the masked grunt stepping one side before turning to face it, the clearing showing the small belt of ammo that extended up the man's shoulder. Still at this distance he didn't bother to fire, sensing the flankers as he turned away. "100 Round belt." Said the voice again which seemed to laugh merrily as Garland appeared before her. "Well now that he's here... I guess I'll just have to."
Another blast would come from the girl's left, a dark pulsing beam of energy smashing into the Haxorus from the flanker.

The vanished spy left only the Blue Balloon pokemon to deal with at first, the drill run smashing into it hard and knocking it backwards, but that only made the counter attack all the worse when it bounced right back into the Metal Mole. Though at this point it was clear that just another single hit would bring the thing down, but with the sudden burst of gunfire and the appearance of the knight, it seemed that they didn't have that chance.

The spy himself would seem to step out of the knight's shadow and look down at the bleeding girl, wincing a little at her wounds before looking towards the other soldiers, "Check her coat," he told the knight, "It should be there, take it and just leave the rest to them."

He took a moment to try to stomp on the girl viciously as she attempted to flee, the swiftest way to expend some of his anger. He wanted to fight, to kill them all, but his time had not quite yet come. There were other things to come first before he fought, others for them to try to overcome.

That was when the spy appeared and almost prompted further attacks from the knight. His words though, held back the strike. He chuckled and did just that, grabbing Emiko to search for and claim the ball before warping out as soon as it was in his possession.

His job here was done.

Maxax, despite his considerable intelligence, was unable to understand what the fuck was going on. So it did the only logical thing it could think of doing- It bit down on the attacker's arm, as hard as it could.

If that armor-wearing faggot wanted something from master, then Maxax was putting itself between master and that armor-wearing faggot.

But fuck, man, teleporting is some balls-tripping crazy shit. Maxax wasn't ready for this. Still, it had to get master's belongings back, so it held on, clamped to Garland's arm with a bite that would have severed the arm of an unarmored foe.

The bodyguard was a soldier, and thus he knew to keep low and move between cover. Even so those were mighty big bullets, and that soldier was very accurate with his piece. It was inevitable that some would graze Erco, and do more than graze. But he strode through that without a hint of pain, even though his coat and uniform were dabbled with blood and blackened ash from the lightning strikes prior.

None of them would come out of this well.

The counter sent down excadrill, and it was recalled right before he got to Emiko. He flung himself at Garland when he had the nerve to pick her up...only to disappear in a flash of light after picking her pocket a second later? For now adrenaline kept him from putting 2 and 2 together why, now he had to keep her alive and little else mattered. On the plus side he did catch the girl before she could hit the ground and worsen her condition. Erco held the child to his bloodied chest and turned away from the machine gunner, sending out his trusty hippo to use it as further cover too.

Sand immediately picked up.

"Smash them all!" Erco called, ordering out a powerful earthquake to, hopefully, end both that soldier, the wobbuffet, and anyone else hidden nearby. Emiko would of course be safe with him.

The resulting shockwave would tear up the oppressive, ghostly terrain and those within it. An ancillary hope was it might help break this spell.

With Garland free of the situation with his spoils, it was time to deliver the prize.

Or that was what he would have said in a normal situation, but time time around he had a dragon biting his arm to deal with instead. He lashed out at the beast with a burst of freezing magic from the arm it had so unceremoniously latched on to, the other tripping loose a pokeball from his belt.

The flash of light revealed one of his team, an Aggron that lashed out at a growled order from the armored man.

"Dragon Claw!"

The beast's claws glowed with a strange power for a moment before it struck heavily at the Dragon.

Fuck. Ice AND dragon. Two of the only three things Maxax was weak against. If this were a Godzilla movie, right about now would be when Maxax would develop a brand new attack or power and stomp his enemies to pieces, because you can't have Godzilla lose.

Sadly, this was not a Godzilla move, and no matter how much I pretend, Maxax is not Godzilla. Quite the contrary, he seems to have been nothing short of a huge failure.

Still, Maxax refused to give up, even with so little fight left in him. Ignoring the Aggron that appeared before him, firing off another focus blast at Garland.

The sandstorm and the resulting earthquake was enough to throw off the soldiers aim as well as jam up the weapon, though with his task done the masked solder looked down at the weapon and after stumbling to one knee as the earthquaked blasted under him, set the weapon on the ground and stood back up, drawing a side arm from within his thick sliced overcoat as he backed away.

The other guard to the right fell backwards as the sand blasted into his eyes, the Zoroark along side him also getting knocked away before he'd order the attack on the Hippo.

No sooner had the blast left the dragon's mouth, than it fell to the ground, exhausted. It had not been expecting to take such a beating, so soon, from so few enemies. That focus blast had used up the last of its energy, and it could fight nor move no more. For the proud beast, such a defeat was unthinkable and damaging to its pride in ways a human could not possibly understand. Still, defeat is defeat, and with no more energy left to fight, Maxax was powerless to stop Garland from taking its master's things.

Weak, the dragon closed its eyes, to dream of better days, when the earth was young, and such defeats would have been impossible. It meant nothing that it wasn't even old enough to remember those days, that stopped it little.

It would triumph on the field of battle another day, it seemed.

With Garland safetly away and the battle turn again the Spy made his move again, the Woobuffet went down hard from the resulting earthquake the man himself somehow keeping to his feet as he rolled aside again. "Well, looks like my job is done now." He muttered to himself before glancing over towards the suitcases. "Those would be a worthy prize though."

With the crossfire of guards and the battle still ongoing he knew his job was done, but for some reason he wanted to watch to see what would happen next.

The knight roared in pain as the attack collided with him at so close a range, the racket of it deafening. When the smoke cleared and the knight had regained some of his senses he took a few steps back and discarded a few pieces of ruined armor to repair later, healing himself shortly after before planting a boot on the dragon and warping it back to where it had come. He had no use for the beast.

That done, he recalled his own pokemon and headed off to deliver their target.

Now he had even more repairs to make, but he had all the time in the world while he awaited the appearance of any to make it as far as this.

The focus blast sailed into the hippo and smashed into its impressive bulk, but the sizable beast just gave an annoyed roar at the pain it caused. Erco placed the girl on the pokemon's back, and the two of them began to backpedal towards the city now that the wobbuffet holding them here was gone.

The bodyguard continued to send bullets down range at the soldier who had swapped to a pistol, and possibly the spy too if he didn't watch himself in poking out from behind trees. Along the way, the ground type smashed another meaty leg into the earth to shatter more of the terrain with earthquake. This was done both to further wound their assailants and the zoroark, and deny them of cover if they sought to pursue.
