look up levels of the gym leaders, use exp share (if you don't you will be severely underleveled) but turn it off as soon as one team member reaches the level of the next gym leader's lowest mon so you aren't overleveled

well i already have a 3DS for 3 years back then i got it due to my DS lite beeing broken. I don't see how buying a used copy of Y gives nintendo more money. The only financial Feedback Nintendo received from me where me buying the 3DS and me buying ORAS. No way they can tell if someone bought Y used = No positive publicity for Y Nintendo-wise (sorry for my bad english)

I kept it off from the start, and my pokemon still out leveled those cancerous gym leaders, with minimal grinding. As long as you super train a little bit, you won't have to worry about upcoming gym battles

Why are people suggesting not to use Exp Share? I don't own the game but it just seems super retarded to care so much about getting bad EVs that you'd rather get like a third as much Exp.

It's the latter. Doing it for EVs is absolutely autistic. Using the Exp Share makes your team about 10 levels above the Elite Four by the end of the game without any grinding.
