They realized that Crunch was the only good dark STAB (Sucker Punch has its uses but is not your primary attack move) and not everyone could learn it. Instead of creating something new they decided to buff it like crazy (which is dumb since it's a mindless utility move, fucking Tangrowth had a set in gen 4 that used it to round off its choices). Also, GF is fond of attack over defense, so anything good for breaking cores is like candy for them.
I'd be ok with a buff it was just something like 40BP, 50BP tops. GF should start making proper moves and stop compensating for the lack of some of them with band-aid solutions that make things worse.
