If it's any consolation, Pokemon Puzzle League was popular enough that they decided to officially adopt "Puzzle League" as the official US name of that puzzle franchise (Panel de Pon in Japan).

Honestly, I love these kind of games, because reaching high levels without paying for anything feels rewarding, at least in the "you won't get anything from me!" way.

If you never make the first micro-transaction, you should be fine.

Judging by the trailer, it looks like you can get the extra play items through street pass, too. If they accumulate, you'd probably be able to download the game and just ignore it for a month until you've built up some currency.

The problem I have with microtransaction on games directed towards children is that the kid risks of fucking spending 1500 bucks for nothing on a shit game without knowing, and without the parents being able of getting their money back.
How can government think putting slot machine in a kid game will make them casino addict and then allow this kind of shit where it's even worse and kids won't see the oney flow through their hands.

There is one thing why I want this to be successful: they may realize that in order to compete with smartphone games, they have to make smartphone-tier games. Which may mean they (read: gamefreak) will realize they're losing their time competing against smartphone games with console games. And given their console games still sell well, it may make them drop that "hurr let's compete against smartphone games" mindset and actually make good console games.

I can just wish...

I kind of agree. I would be ok with them making shit-tier smartphone games and good core games. It would certainly beat the direction their going with the core games now, as in being a horrible mix of legit games with tons of smartphone influence.

They'll probably just use Play Coins as a currency. Microtransactions will not be a viable strategy for it, since you can just play the same game on your phone - no need to pay for two copies of the same game.

You nerds mistake GFs motives.
Its not "Make the best game possible."
GF's only driving force is money.
A mobile game takes about 1/8th of the time/money/manpower to develop and release that a full 3DS game does.
If this 'mobile' game makes more than 1/8th of the money that the average pokemon game does, expect GF to shift its focus away from main series pokemon and begin developing for mobile.

From the trailer it looks more like Pokemon Battle Trozei. But I bet you never bothered with this game. By the way, not all matching-three puzzle games are Candy Crush clones. You remind me when people used to call almost every jrpg as Final Fantasy clone.

Even if you ignore a problem, it doesn't make it go away. Besides, Candy Crush uses a system where later levels become completely luck-based, and those require either a ton of attempt to get the right RNG, or micro transactions. Judging by the gameplay footage, Shuffle will be using the same system. And of course, because it's a Smartphone game with Pokemon, it's essentially two money printers taped together, so ignoring it and hoping it flops won't help at all.
