Wouldn't surprise me if whatever version comes out next has the option to use Amiibos for unlockables (Items? Could be another 200 Potion situation) or maybe even transferable Pokemon.

It's a P2P game. 40% of the game is locked unless you buy a monster figure that can go into a locked zone. Look at the one that had the Light and Dark monsters, you had to buy both of them to play in both locked zones.

I don't really see the charm is Amiibo's.
Like they're alright figures but needing them to get the full experience of games like Mario Party is no better than your average DLC.

I admit that I was thinking about buying some purely to keep them as figures. But the drastic contrast between the promos and the actual figures, as well as me not wanting to support hidden DLC made me come to me senses.

yeah but Mario Party and arguably STEAM are pretty much the only games so far that has substantial stuff added. Everything else is derpy shit like costumes or a health boost or some shit. I'd be fine if we got a Pokemon amiibo that didn't add anything that put anybody else at a disadvantage competitively for not having an amiibo
