Also NEW POKEYMAN.

This one is based on the Scottish / English myth of the Dullahan. The Dullahan (it is unknown wether there's only one or several) is an unseelie fairy (that is, evil) that traverses ceasesly through the roads and routes of the world. Its appearance is that of a headless rider cracking a whip made of a spine to spur forth a skinned, putrid horse. It holds his own head under his arm and its believed that at times, when it makes a halt, it will whisper a name with its blue, cold lips and that person will die in the following days if not immediately. Even if it says nothing someone will shortly die in the spot the Dullahan stopped.
Though this fairy normally keeps itself to the countryside it can appear anywhere. There's a report from the XIX century of a gentleman being given chase by a Dullahan in the very heart of London. It of course couldn't leave it behind, but fortunately a gold brooch or something fell from his person, making the Dullahan vanish when it was about to seize him.

Its said that the Dullahan might be either the corrupted spirit of a god or a king.

Well, that's how the myth depicts it anyways. Now, this concept might be a bit... Dark... For a pokemon game, but it's a very cool piece of Scottish lore and I think it could work very well if we pull it off right.

A headless porkyman is 2spooky, so maybe something like a centaur?, I also think it would make for an excellent Ghost / Fairy type and physical sweeper, and we all know how there aren't many concepts that would allow such typing or even physical Ghost or Fairy types

It might work if it were just the horse without the horseman. Maybe emanating a cold blue mist from its mouth, representing the way the head whispers a name of a person who dies the next day. Could also be part water and take inspiration from that mythical horse that drags people underwater.

I see it being stronk, but maybe not overwhelmingly so. Somewhere ranging from Heracross to Haxorus in terms of BST.

If it can appear just like that and give you chase tirelessly, in an almost unstoppable manner, maybe we should give it Shadow Tag too.

Really, it's gonna need one. The only half decent Flying special attack is Air Slash since Hurricane never ever hits. This could also be made into a custom move for the game with a wider distribution, since probably more stuff is gonna need a good Flying special attack (Lyrizion comes to mind).

Why, and hear me out here, why don't we have a "Doesn't know / Undecided" option in surveys?

Since we have just yes / no possibilities, many times anons, when in doubt, will vote "No, fix it" when they don't even know how to fix it or even if it really needs a fix. This of course means that much shit doesn't get in just because a few simply can't form an opinion in the matter.

I say votes cast towards this option are dismissed when counting votes towards the 66% approval rate. That way every vote cast will have a strong, firm opinion behind that ensures the vote is as valid as it can't be, thing that can't really be said of a vote with only feeble doubts backing it.

What do you think about Neutral though?

PD: It's because a starter concept that suggested a tornado goat because the horns are swirly and remind you of tornadoes. From there the concept got done by a drawfag taking inspiration from Baphomet, who is depicted as a powerul goat-man magician and then took a shamanistic spin to make it look less demon-like.

What if it were like a deer sort of thing, where the head and neck look like a torso and the antlers look like arms and hair on it head would be the mist coming from where the head would be? Maybe its antlers could even bend and twist to meet certain needs, essentially acting as arms

I think that, for this design, a more ghost-like design would work better than one based on a spooky skeleton. Maybe we should go back to the centaur-like one

Going from this as a base, the first of all is trying to remove some bone from the dessign. The whip-arm is noice, so it stays. The ribcage and thin waist should be removed though. Substitute them with a black, more humanlike torso. Think of Gallade or Bisharp but with broader shoulders. For the head I'd recommend something like, rather than a skull, a spirit ball with a stitched black line mouth and yellow eyes with a thick black outline surrounded with a fiery aura (think Ghastly).

The collors gotta change too. White and red don't do the trick. As a starting point, I'd recommend the same pallet as Chandelure, mainly black with clear, icey blues to represent the spirit parts.

The whip and all other bones should be black too. The Ibex already does the white bones thing dessign-wise.

I also thought, since a deer-like design is possible, maybe we could base ourselves off of Xerneas. Xerneas is a good seelie fairy while this could be in some way its non-700-BST-parallel, an evil fairy that goes around doung the exact opposite.

I'm not saying that we should do a Xerneas copycat, but rather something that simply reminds you of it.

The major issue is that it's been around near the beginning and has the issue where two different variations of one concept got submitted as two different Pokemon. Therefor has the worst case of "just gets bigger/ different pose" evolution problem

The original image that introduced the bigger dropbear didn't include the smaller one in the evo line.
It proposed a split evo with the smaller either going into the dreamlike koala or the nightmare dropbear.

I think we should worry less about alignments of the main legendaries. It seems like they could each realistically fit any kind of neutrality in the grand scheme of things and it seems kind of forced to label each as a specific type of it. Their exact roles in nature and abilities seem like a more important thing to focus on than their alighnment

personally, I see it as

Imo the main pair Rainbow Snake / Dirawong should mostly keep to their business and occasionally come into confrontation when their interests are compromised by the other (but not being stark enemies like Groudon and Kyogre). The Minka Bird I see as what you said, a bringer of death to give place to a new beginning but also an outer threat that attempts to forcefully do so, that being a no-go for both the Snek and Dira.

And the problem with the venom team isn't wether fhey are Bug tupes or not. Even if they were to have other types they'd still be 'bugs' in dessign, unless we redo them completely.

What do you mean by that? You seem to imply that there's an "artificial" vs a "natural" form destruction, and that the prior is not what man does (and which two legendaries don't appear to tolerate - but don't do anything about?) but what the Minka Bird does as well.
So where do you draw the line between tolerable and intolerable destruction? And what makes you think that the Minka Bird isn't the one disagreeing with occasional overgrowth or overdevelopment caused by the other two and couter-measured by, say, huge catastrophes?

It's also a spiritual war. A war between the ideals of the world of man, where everything is preserved and has continuity to build on the past and a world where everything is fluid and pure, where everything is its primal, spiritually harmonious state, even if it doesn't last for long. It's like the idea of orderly classical beauty vs the raw, horrific sublime.

The Minka Bird on the other hand isn't destruction. It's oblivion, complete annihilation and ruin.

But the idea of the Minka Bird entering in conflict with the other two because of overgrowth could be cool too, though I like mine better.

Unless the Minka Bird is viewed as the meta-legendary akin to Rayquaza or perhaps Giratina, I'm not to keen on that, because it either neglects or demonises decay and death of every kind. A person dying within the ideal world or a bacterial holst infecting a plant in pure nature would already demonstrate the power of the Minka Bird or the lack of complete power of the other two. You don't need to go as far as oblivion and complete annihilation. In fact, this seems more like the demonisation of decay, which is a natural part of life, that would realistically befall the Minka Bird despite it only doing its important though disliked task. Many early concepts of the Minka Bird involved a sort of tragic loneliness because of this. It seems a shame to forgie that by simplifying the Minka Birds significance into "it wants to see the world burn".

But perhaps I misunderstand you.

The only way I see it working is if the Minka Bird were TOO powerful and threatens to destroy the potential for new beginnings too. But even then, the "compromise" would simply be to destroy less, not to not destroy at all.

It's of course possible that the Minka Bird "just arived" and hasn't begun its work yet when the player interrupts and captures it. While I hate the implausibility here, GF have done worse with Arceus, so I'm okay with that. But it seems to me like this would have to be somehow plot-relevant in order to attain the gravity that it cleary has.

In short, I prefer the Minka being an embodiment of death as its vital to life, not some huge distruction force. Not because I dislike that, but because it's a force that seems way too powerful to implement reasonably without turning it into the theme of the game.
And if it is "just" small-scale death and decay, there could be great chemistry between it and the other two, them being revered and the Minka Bird being hated, despite all three of them being equally "neutral". Overgrowth and the like might even force the Minka Bird to execute extreme power, making it hated even more. This seems more realistic and appropriate for its concept than turning it into a universal entity. I hope you get what I'm saying and that, rather than bash your idea, I merely disagree with it.

I considered a trio that the Minka Bird uses to execute its dirty deed, primarily to avoid too much antagonising and to spread the percieved "death" of things to different causes.

I couldn't disagree more. Having everything important be Australian without any variety would be much more boring and characterless. PokeAus doesn't have any character on it's own if it's just Australia.

Of course I know that a general Australian theme should be expected. That can be achieved easily with having the region look like Australia(or part of it), having some stereotypical Australian characters, the starters being of Australian origin and the mascot trio be of Australian origin. Having some non-Australian legends hardly takes away from that feeling. It sounds very overkill.

Previosly I studied Biotechnology away from home but I fell into a depression that made me go back home and start doing this.

I'm unsure I'm in the right path, but on the other hand I love how I can make words dance at my very command and create something that thugs at people's heartstrings. I'm hoping I can dedicate myself to writing in the future, be either philosophy or fiction (I like fiction the best).

Snail in general just doesn't scream starter, I would believe.

Also, considering we've already got a bug starter as our "weird" starter, a snail makes even less sense. Usually you'd think of the trio as "soft and cuddly", "awesome little reptile", and "that other thing that's kinda neat".

It may be deemed a silly question, but why?
One has nothing to do with the other, neither physologically nor regarding the typing (unless you want to make a huge stretch on the Rock-type).
A snail offers itself to a bulky appearance with both amorphous and solid parts to it. It could be a starter with a shell that can actually use it to increase defense dramatically. It could be used to implement other inspirations that incorporate slime, the ocean, fortification and so on. I fail to see where "Capricorn" comes in, and how it improves and expands on the snal concept.
If you want something that makes even an ounce of sense becoming a Capricorn, cast your vote for Bubbalo.

Honestly I don't know how a snail pokemon could evolve beside "becoming bigger", every slug/snail pokemon have the same problem (except Goodra) and I don't see it being a good starter. Said that I liked the snail he drew, it's cute, and I wanted to give a differt idea for the evolutions. Being stack to the same animal/concemp every stage doesn't always work, the platypus started "died" for the same reason, even though the final version became a dinosaur and was still awful.

Oh my you're right. I thought that was the Hippocamus, but that's a horse. So the typing makes slightly more sense. I get the snail cones as horns look too, but that sounds to me like a perfect opportunity for a "merging" mon, i.e. one where different stages fuse into one stage, sharing their fluid bodies but keeping the shell seperate. Needless to say that wouldn't go down well as a starter.

I see your concern with the "it just gets bigger" but I'd rather we'd try something a littler more related before going off the deep end just yet.
Also, by the by, the Platypus had verious design inspiration, so it didn't lose popularity due to a lack thereof. I think most people simply didn't want a platypus starter, and no design was so awe-inspiring that it converted them. Understandibly, artfrieds began dropping it too.

It would help if a new element were added in some way. A pearl is a nice idea, as anon suggested.
You can also play with bodyshape. Make it longer, make it wider, give it a curved outline akin to Shellos or whatever their name is.
Do something with the shape of the rock (a waterfall pouring out of it, supplying its body with moisture is an idea that just popped up in my head, for instance).
Lastly, I'm not sure how beneficial hands are. I have a feeling it could work quite well without them. As of now, unless you want a centaur-snail look, they feel tacked on and out of place.

I do really like the first stage though, but the direction of the line is still completely open and I think we can do better than what you propose. But thank you for your effort nonetheless.

It's mostly because Americans can't draw a platypus without it looking too much like a duck. And then one drawfag started pushing really hard for a dinosaur evolution which looked really messed up and made it that nobody else wanted to touch it.

Still reckoned we could have gone with a bulky Swampert kind of look. A Mega-Swampert kind of body could work if someone would give it a go.

Also, we've had a Capricorn submitted before. Was kinda cute.

Yeah maybe I went too far making a snail evolving into a capricorn.
I was looking at the Aporrhais pespelecani (this) and it reminded me of a kind of weapon, with every spike used like a frame grounded to prevent the recoil and the end of the spiral used like the hole where the bullet exits. Does someone how to make this viable?

The thing is that platypi (?) do look like ducks. You can't see the mouth unless it's open, and aside from the rest of the body, there is very little in their faces to differentiate from ducks after having been stylised. But you're right that might be a failing due to an ingrained analogy and lack of exposure to platypi.

My only gripe would be that projectile-based water-pkemon have already been done by GF as well as Sage, but simultaneously I agree with most that this isn't a very solid argument.

I'm not sure what you have in mind for viability, but a sluggish, limber and amorphous looking heavyweight that can shoot spouts of water and blobs of goo seems enough to go by. Alternatively you could implement coral or shells in the snail-body to remind of some vaguely militaristic things (like badges of honour or whatnot?). I can't think of anything else, I'm afraid.

The design came in around the first time PokeAus started to die. There's quite a few good designs that have probably been buried and forgotten about in the dropbox.

And platypi do look pretty different. The look can be achieved, it just requires a bit of work.

I wasn't really going for a centaur-snail thing, I did a re-draw of the rough draft to what it would look like as a functional Pokemon design, and see if PokeAus likes the design.

I was thinking of having some sort of a large shield on both arms or just one arm with a large pearl embedded in it, these shields would help the Pokemon to block physical attacks and also able to put in some heavy attacks on other pokemon.

I'm not too sure about the waterfall thing, I have a feeling that it might make it even more complex and over-designed.
Still, if everyone says the snail isn't the good candidate for Water starter. We could make it as a water or a underwater route pokemon.

What makes you say it's complex and over-designed at the moment? It looks incredibly simple and straight-forward to me, hence why all of my suggestions aimed for visual and/or conceptual diversity. If you don't agree that's fine by me, but to me it's not complex enough to be overladen by a waterspout. That idea was a spontaneous one though, so it's probably not particularly good.
And yes, the snail has got quite some popularity. It is likely that, down the road, a snail-based pokemon will be submitted provided it doesn't make the cut here.

Regarding the tornado thing, though I personally love it I can see why others wouldn't want it. I think the main issue is the size, its just too big for spriting to be possible. It should be included somewhere in the game but maybe not as a forme.

I'd keep the horns as they are and maybe draw some traces of wind to indicate the tormadoes are about to be generated.

Still I have the inpression that maybe wider shoulders, with a more masculine, impossing figure would be neat. It'd make it look more fearsome and thus a step closer towards its demonic origins.

Sure, I'm very likely wrkng and that it's better to stay away from the whole demon business, but I like looking at things and seeing the connection with the inspiration behind them.

But Water/Normal? God fucking no. Aside for an overpopulation of Bugs the next largest problem in our dex is the huge amount of Normal/anything typings that are only slammed one because they are more interesting than pure typings. Remember how rare those usually are.

Honestly I think it should look more like Baphomet too. I mean there is a valid point that giving it wings would further clutter the sprite on top of the tornadoes which already would be hella difficult to work into a sprite. But I don't think that having it look like Baphomet would be too edgy in the slightest, especially with the bright and vivid color scheme.

The thing about pokemon is that it appeals to both genders. Girls like the small cute pokemon and boys like the big powerful ones, which is very much what windy Baphomet was intended to be. It's a very "boyish" design. The supernatural inspirations add to that sort of "power fantasy" element that boys look for in cartoon characters and toys. But apparently the edge police don't like that.

I get the feeling that simpler, cuter pokemon are seen as the "safe" option in pokemon. You can't really go wrong with that sort of design. It seems harder to make a pokemon that would appeal to a boy since everyone is very vigilant about the design becoming too dark and mature. When I draw something, I imagine how I would feel about it as a young kid seeing it for the first time. I know that sounds autistic as fuck, but I know I'm not the only one.

And besides, given what I've seen in the "draw yourself over the years with your favorite pokemon" threads, I reckon plenty of anons here would like a demonic pokemon.

pokemon as a whole tends to avoid darker themes, of course there are examples when theyve tipped the boat but generally speaking, they try to keep it politically correct.
the way i see it we have a few main objectives

It doesn't really. It's basically a bipedal markhor. The tornado theme was put with the markhor because of the spiraling horns. It also takes inspiration from mages and shamans (the tufts on its sleeves resembling feathers which some shamans would adorn themselves with. Spirit animal thing). That spiritual element was chosen because of the baphomet connotations. I don't think every core concept needs to be perfectly poignant, I never would have imagined wrestling going together with a mole but then someone slapped a gold star on its face and I was sold.

I can't say I agree. The pokemon's design and abilities should always be the only thing that is important for the typing. For offensive Pokemon a dual typing is nearly always favorable. It's also not like you can just stick Normal on any pure typing, like I don't see anything normal about a Capricorn at all for example.

Your take seems to be a lot more light-hearted than the other one. Go with that. Maybe make its ears look more winged shaped. Or give it small wings just above its hooves. Think angelic. Also make its horns a bit more funnel shaped, but not too big.

For the bone I'd use a yellowish colour. You know, like the ones of actual bones. The blue is great as it is although you could add some more around joints such as the knees, elbows, wrists and ankles.

Everyone was expecting Goomy to became a deign slug thing. I think hat what made people hate it is that it ended up as generic dragon #20 - now with goo.
I don't think that Pokemon that nearly only gets bigger are that bad, but that's not starter material. I just don't see a future for a pure snail as a starter.

Didn't someone have an idea to use the "harpoon" function of the cone snail. Why not do something with that idea? Maybe have a large organic harpoon in its shell which it fires at enemies. If pulled off correctly, it might get away with looking like a pokemon and not a digimon. Although personally I'm sick of digimon being used as a criticism.

Word brotha. Honestly, I'm content with the current dessign, but I think that something based on one of the most dark, demonic and twisted things imaginable should impose respect.

The first time you see it in game you should be impressed, "Woah, that THING is going to be a nightmare to beat!", that's the reaction a demon lord should get from a player. It's the boyish pokemon per excellence, commanding, strong and imposing, the one you imagine must excel at everything it does, like a mix of a rugged Canadian limberjack and world chess champion

Success is the very essence of masculinity, if the pokemon looks like it could take on the whole world any day of the week then it's a model of masculinity like, say, Machamp was in Gen I. That was why I insist on a more corpulent, muscled figure. People that look up to manly men should be allowed to have at least one pokemon like that.

Personally I'd model the goat's body after Pic Related. It's just the perfect anatomy, beautiful to the point of perfection. It's absolutely manly but not too muscled either.

Have another look at the dessign, the legs, the head and specially the arms are GOAT git it? but the chest is just kind of there, as if it was added simply to connect all the extremities. Its really plain and brings down the dessign as a whole.

That's why I insist, give it a more prominent chest (no need for defined muscles), adorn it with one or two tribal white markings and BAM, it goes from a 7.5 to a 10.

I tried to put some ideas of this thread.
The first is a simple snail.
The last is a snail that uses shells as horns.
The middle is just glue, a dragon slug with a two pointed shell to symbolize the horns of is evo.

This is actually a pretty good concept. Old Aus was shitty, but I think this is salvageable and could make a great adittion to the dex.

Has it actually ever gotten a 66% "No, never" votes?, If it hasn't we can debate it in tomorrow's thread.

It's rather difficult drawing animal skull structures front on or 3/4 view... I find a profile view helps a bit more in showing off the proportions though.

A story so grim (pun intended) would make a lot of sense for something that evolves into a demon.

It would also make a nice contrast to Sage's own sheep/wolf mons, Dreamdery and Macabre. Whereas ours horrifically killls the wolf, theirs is helpless against it.
