When /v/ actually talks about Pokemon, it's really not as bad as people say it is. They usually talk about the actual games most of the time (both main and side series) and the "genwunners" are usually just one or two shitposters. Pretty sure some of them liked Platinum, even.
My only gripe with it is that they usually post pokegirls or baramons all the time too.

I'd assume that /vp/ was somewhat of a containment, in that there are sometimes threads that don't relate to the actual games or might be more circlejerky than usual/more fitting on /vg/ (anime discussion and shiny hunt threads come to mind). It was only a bonus of sorts that /vp/ also covers actual game discussion so people can make threads about certain topics.

I used to go to /v/ for the RCT threads and the Space Engine threads. They were always high quality, even if they did recycle a fair amount of content. I knew once those started being shat on, it was time to leave.

It's been 2 years since I've been there regularly, but a quick glance makes it look like the board has actually improved since then. Not that that's saying much.

You can post about Pokemon in any relevant board with no repercussions. Hell, Pokemon threads outside of /vp/ tend to be much better than the average /vp/ thread for several reasons, at least half of which are totally independent of board quality. The most fundamental problem with /vp/ is that there are very few board-relevant topics that haven't already been discussed to death, but there's still too many different things to post about to ever be shunted into a single thread on another board.

Refugee board actually sounds better considering the huge amount of shitposting there is on /v/ now than before and how hard is to start a decent discussion about a game. You can safely discuss whatever you want here as long as it's on topic and you can generally have a good time. Pokemon threads used to eat up a lot of space on /v/ and people would go in and up the threads in typical /v/ fashion.
