As for Dawn, she cheered, but Ash always ends up focusing on the gym battles and forgets the surroundings except the battlefield. He broke off from the battle to get inspiration from Serena. They even had Bonnie's voice muffled.

Ash/Serena could be a subplot too based on these scenes of her helping him out at the gym and cliff. All the other stuff I see listed on the Bulbapedo Amourshipping page from Ash's side is irrelevant and plain friendship stuff Ash does all the time. Serena has an overwhelming number of scenes showing she already likes Ash, so it really comes down to Ash's side. He needs to show some genuine care and jealously, IMO.
