Archie was really playful, he had a right-hand man twice his size who called him bro, and the grunts look like they're just in it for the kicks. I found Magma to be much more threatening, even Tabitha (fucker gets scary when he's angry). Also, Courtney's personality takes a HUGE turn in the post-game, going from robot to blatantly yelling in your face about how much she hates you. She even gets friendly with you after the Delta Episode.
Also, I have a twin brother who always gets the other version, and we like to compare the differences. He agrees Archie is much more fun, but Team Aqua as a whole is less intimidating.
