Is there actually any logic or reasoning behind Fairy being super effective against Fighting and Dragon types? Or was it made out of the sole purpose of a counter? I have no personal resentment against the introduction of the type. Just a little curious as to why they chose these two types, if any.

As a balance patch, yes. Lore, logic and other fronts I dunno. Faeries should be pranksters and closer to nature not many are known for fighting against brawlers, dragons and darkness

I think that they could have made the identical type and just called it "light". It would make much more sense for pokemon like Gallade, Mr. Mime, annd Mawile. All I would change is the relation of Dark and Light, I would make them super effective against each other. It also makes sense in that it is kind of a "holy" idea and that makes sense against dragons, darkness and Fighters

Fairy beating Fighting, I would guess it's kind of like a trickster outsmarting a fighter kind of thing. Dark is also a trickster type, but it's more malicious cheating, which the honorable martial artists beat. But Fairy is more like supernatural creations playing pranks.

Dragon just seems like a balance thing. But if I had to come up with something, I'd say it also has to do with fairy tales, and Fairy acting as the "Light" type. Dragons in fairy tales were usually the villains and died at the end. So Fairy (tales) > Dragons

The real question to me is why Fairy resists Bug, and why Fire resists Fairy.

Not that fairy being super efective against dark makes a lot of sense either, though.

Fairy mons tend to be cute and/or feminine-looking. Stuff like the Marill line doesn't look particularly noble or holy, but I could certainly see them being the water-fairies they are. Same with Aromatisse and Klefki and shit.

As for why fairy beats dragon and fighting and dark I'm pretty sure it's just going by the 'cute things are tougher than they look' trope that's quite common these days, especially in Japan. Look at the Magical Girl genre.

What doesn't make sense to me is why just randomly throw fight in there? If the fighting type is supposed to be seen in the same light as heroic knight's, or something of the sort, then why would it be weak to fairy. The overall presentation of the type doesn't seem sinister, so why would good beat up on good?

And that just bothers me. It's like GF has some sort of agenda against the Ice type. Fairies being strong over Fighting is also another "game balance" type of thing, it's unnecessary, but not as unnecessary as the dragon thing.

Considering what I've gathered about the fairy type here, now I find myself asking why dark, too? If fairys fuck with everyone and anyone why are they especially powerful against dark types if they are seen as mischievous as well?

Dark and Dragon types run off of malicious thoughts and rage, and Fighting is arguably a more violent type, so their attacks don't work right against Fairies, and that leaves them more open for Fairies to fuck up.

Fairies in ancient times were more than just pixies and shit. They were child snatching, moody, seductive creatures with crazy powers, depending on which ones you were referring to. They're weak to steel because of "cold iron", fire helps you see through a glamour... But you fucking got me on the bug thing.

conventional fighting means martial arts and fighting techniques. fighting pokemon basically fight like unarmed humans, just on a greater level. and that's why they lose to fairies, because supernatural > natural.

it's no different from the rationale behind psychic beating fighting.
