Will Poliwrath ever be useable?
Its movepool is so bad and its stats are incredibly mediocre.
Poor thing doesn't even get Aqua Jet.

The power creep is strong, and Poliwrath is definitely mostly outclassed by M-Swampert, but it does a few things differently that means its not a completely waste of space.

Water/Fighting is a fine typing, has good STAB and interesting resistances. You could feasibly run a Water Absorb abusing set in doubles, or simply revel in the fact that it doesn't use your mega slot like MSwamp.

Being outclassed by an already outclassed pokemon is a bad sing mate. It is useable if you need an answer for Crawdaunt on swift swim teams, thought.

It's top tier in PU, it's nowhere near unusable like Ledian though and it even has niche sets in OU where it can consistently counter Mega Gyarados, Crawdaunt, check Banded Azumarill, Specs Keldeo, Bisharp, Mega Slowbro with only Scald, Manaphy lacking Energy Ball and stuff like most Rain Sweepers

RestTalk, Circle Throw and Scald stops most setups apart from Mega Sableye

It can bullshit its way past Physical attackers with Scald and can easily stay healthy over a game with RestTalk

It will be VERY VIABLE once they replace it's worthless Damp ability with No Guard.

And since No Guard would replace Damp, you can give it an ability capsule so it can be compatible with the gen 5 only set up move Work Up to utilize a mixed set with high BP special attacks. That could make it UU or even BL.

Aqua jet makes no sense on it.
Damp should be boosted to prevent of using FIRE attacks, and EXP.should be strongest physical fire type.

Whats wrong with another No Guard Dynamic Puncher? It doesn't even outdamage Machamp and has more weaknesses. And Poliwrath isn't always going to use Dynamic Punch when Hypnosis+Wake-Up Slap gimmick or Focus Blast on a mixed set would be stronger Fighting STAB options anyway. Machamp would still outclass it physically.

Mega Swamp is a bulky Swift Swimmer, pretty much the only one. Kabutops just happens to have less opportunity cost since it doesn't take a Mega slot.
