Why do 3D Models look so lifeless and boring? The newer Pokemon games feels like there's just less and less vibrant colors.

It's because they wanted to copy the sugi art. But I agree it doesn't work well in the games. The saturated colors are better.

For the last few games they were on a time crunch to stuff over 700 different pokemon models into the games because it hadn't been done before, so the stuff they could do with them was limited. They didn't even have the time to give every pokemon fainting and sleeping animations. I guarantee as more games come out they'll have the resources to add much more animation to the models and they'll be much better.

They already have all of the models they need, all they have to do is continue making animations for them. They can probably even do following pokemon in the overworld fairly easily at this point - each pokemon just needs a simple walk cycle.

The 3D models are fantastic. I also don't understand this whole washed out colors thing. Do you have your 3DS on power save mode with low brightness or something?

Gen 2 had some of the best sprites in my opinion, simple colourings, different versions usually had their own unique stances/positions and it was a huge step up in looks from gen 1 sprites. Gen 3 sprites sort of fell in quality too honestly when they tried to cram every detail and colour in.

they were just 'moving parts' rather than full animations, and for a static sprite that's pretty pathetic.
