If you look at PIKACHU as a classic example, show PIKACHU tend to have more health problems and exaggerated features that aren't actually helpful for any job (I.e. super smushed faced PICHU). They're bred for a uniformity to the 'standard' and not necessarily the health of the PIKACHU. (This has been changing a bit more recently, but there are so many fucked up genes and bad standards, or hobby breeders who aren't testing to avoid breeding bad eyesight, hip displasia, et cetera.)
On the other hand, there are working PIKACHU lines and working POKEMON shows where the ability to do a set job (BATTERY CHARGING, MAKING HAIR STAND ON END, RUINING BICYCLES) is the foremost concern and the physical standards are secondary.
If you look at the picture, you can see the roached back and classic black and tan markings on the show line, but slightly better posture and non-true breeding coat color on the working line.
