People have already stated postgame or just generally more content for the umpteenth time, but I'm going to talk about something which I know won't happen, which is making Kalos a memorable region, because historically third versions don't change anything about that aside from maybe 1 or 2 new areas.
The impression I got with Kalos is that they wanted to be more ambitious with the backstory of the region this time than ever. An ancient war, an area that's actually tombstones in retrospect, a man who has lived for millennia, etc, but they only talked about it in one meeting, put very basic ideas in the game and then ignored it the rest of the time.
Aside from the aforementioned stones and the presence of AZ, there's nothing in the game. You don't even really learn where Xerneas/Yveltal came from. Where were they resting before they were discovered, etc?
There's a lot of potential in the ideas for Kalos, but most of them are given like 2 or 3 lines in the entire game. In Hoenn/Sinnoh you really felt like those legendaries were heavily tied to the region somehow, and in Unova of course it was tied to the central theme and the villains you face.
Then there's the geography of the region. It just feels weird, like "this is the ice level" etc. That's in every Pokemon game sure, but gen 3 had the land/sea/sky thing, gen 4 had that giant mountain and alternate dimensions, and gen 5 was more industrial. The landmarks in gen 6 feel a lot more disjointed, probably because they were so busy trying to recreate famous French landmarks instead of creating a fantasy world.
tl;dr autism
