If you just edit your pokemon or inject them in, you end up not caring about them like you would a chance shiny found while breeding and whatnot. No sentimental value at all.

Sentimental value is all about time. A pokemon that you've brought with you since RSE is gonna mean more to you than one you just caught in ORAS. One you spent actual effort on is gonna mean more to you than one you poofed into existence.

I make those same connections by winning battles and having the pokemon on my team. I have the time to enjoy its capabilities.

Whether I spent the time riding my bike or just slapping in is irrelevant when I'm feeling connected to my Whimsicott through my win record and good battles.

Basically, your argument is "My way of liking something is right, your's is wrong" and projecting that somehow I can't enjoy something on the level you do.
