Zapdos and Articuno were the best for this. Both were in out of the way locations where it was entirely possible you wouldn't find them. Ever. At all. Zapdos was the best, because in order to get to the power plant, you had to come back after the 5th/6th gym, go down an out of the way path, find a field of grass and a building, then explore THAT dungeon.

Zygarde? You walk within two feet of his bedroom just in the normal course of the game.

Some legendaries are punks to find, some aren't. If you want cryptic, the Regi Trio is probably the most cryptic set of legends., though shit like Heatran, DP Giratina, and Kyurem are just as hidden as Articuno or Zapdos.

I'm pretty sure that Articuno was the hardest one to find. Finding my way all the down to the bottom of that fucking cave was a pain in the ass, especially if you didn't know what was down there or what the point was to it. It was just way to muc of a painful puzzle to be a just a path to the other side.

Yeah, I was pretty happy about some of legendaries in DP and BW. Others are total cop-outs though. I feel like every roaming legendary is a bitch move. And gen VI has been stupid for legendaries so far. It's either handed to you in the story, or there's a giant neon sign outside their lair. Barring the always amazing regis.

I usually skipped Seafoam Islands and just went to Cinnabar via Pallet Town. Fuck all that puzzle nonsense.

I did, believe it or not.
My school handed out dictionaries that same year, and they had a braille section. So I went and translated every single character, except for the punctuation.

On the last page of the instruction manual there was a braille alphabet. As a ten year old I felt super smart that I figured out how to catch the regi's entirely on my own. Mind you, I didn't even have internet access until I was twelve so reading that many people had to look it up made me even cockier. Boy did high school teach me...

My brother and I did it. We worked together to translate the first translation and then he did the Registeel one while I did Regirock (because we had no idea if/where there was a third one).
When I stumbled across Regice's cave I told him to go get his copy and we tried for ages to work out what "wait for time to pass twice" meant. I left my Gameboy on and went to the toilet or something and when I got back it was open, but we had no idea why. So he never got Regice without looking it up.

http://replacementdocs.com/download.php?view.7977 this is a link to a .pdf of the R/S instruction manual. It's on the last page. According to bulbapedo, FR/LG had some braille in it as well, but I don't remember seeing it.

I was really slow with the translations, and Regice's door opened while I was in the middle of decoding it. I couldn't figure out what I did, but the door was open, so I didn't think about it for too long.
