Why did X and Y introduce sky battles only to have the boring route 3 bird and a dragon as your only Kalos-native options?

Sky Battles suck in general so I don't mind.
When it all comes down to it, they're just regular battles but you can't use this and can't do that. It doesn't add any new mechanics, just restricts the player.

I had hoped Sky Battles would at least have some sort of gimmick, like changing weather, sudden Tailwinds, or an altitude aspect.

I also thought that a Fighting/Flying type that evolved by leveling up during a Sky Battle would be a cool addition. Maybe if Hawlucha ever gets allowed in, if SBs ever return, it'll happen.
