I see nothing wrong with it being SE on Fighting. Both it and Dragon were pretty OP offensive types. And both STAB users had pretty high attacking stats alongside spammable STABs that offered great coverage. Just look at Fighting types like Terrakion and Conkeldurr giving no fucks to Fighting-neutral Steels since they can still hit them for massive damage.

I agree with Dark though but the weakness matchup does seem logical lore wise alongside Dragon so I'll accept that

There aren't enough Fairy-types.
Fairy-types are only weak to Steel and Poison--Types that have some of the most rare moves in the game.
It's also too focused on one specific species. Rather than Magic-type (though would sound too similar to psychic), it's a fairy type, giving the connotation that it can only be used on Pokemon that are literally fairies.

It wouldn't seem right though. Unlike Magic and Light, they don't give off a "fantasy" or "mythical" vibe like Fairy does. Fairy can categorize “Magic” and “Light” with old magical creatures and holy inspired creatures(both which can appear in folktales) alongside covering mythical folktale creatures that aren’t associated with Magic and Light. Theres nothing holy or magical about Mawile, but it gets Fairy because associated with creatures from old folktales. Which is why Steel/Fairy is more fitting for it than Steel/Magic or Steel/Light. As “sissy” as the name sounds, I find it pretty clever since the name can cover multiple different inspirations all dumped in one type.

Adding a new type to begin with was a mistake. It's way too late now to be able to add a type without it seeming horribly shoehorned in. People gave dragon type shit for having some of the pokemon have nothing to do with dragons, but it was several times worse with fairy type.

I'd say it stems from the designer of the pokemon not thinking about any fairy related anything when designing a lot the retconned fairy types.

If they were wanting to balance the type chart, they'd have just altered the current strengths and weaknesses instead of introducing a new typing which is OP to the point of being a significant boon to everyone who got the typing added to it.

Those 2 were just examples of powerful common mons of the type, and everyone knows the majority of Fighting types have pretty high attacking stats and high BP STABs to spam. Hell a Medicham's Dynamic Punch is stronger than a Groudon's Earthquake, and it doesn't even use Dynamic Punch since it has the more reliable and slightly stronger Hi Jump Kick to use.

I think the real problem here is GF doesn't realize why dragons were OP in the first place.

The type itself was just a slightly better Normal type. It's the fact the GF kept giving them retardedly powerful moves, great movepools, and the best stat distributions that made them as good as they were.

In the same generation they created a type to supposedly counter dragons, they buffed all the best dragons yet again and got one of them banned from the banlist.
