It was from Serena all along. You can notice in this picture that it's still sunset. TR will be stealing all the gifts and then Ash goes on and retrieves them which after that goes to that night scene where he shows Serena the gift and thanks her for it.
It could be a lot better since Ash would've needed to gift Serena back because of it if Serena doesn't have any other gifts prepared to the other two.. Anonymous

Has anyone actually made a serious attempt to calculate Pikachu's level? While I realize that stats and levels are meaningless in the anime, it's still possible to loosely apply game mechanics in order to come up with a rough estimate of how much experience Pikachu has earned from all of the opponent's he's beaten over the course of the show.

Theoretically, it could just be canon that Pikachu had its level reset to 5 both of these times. Plus the numbers would be too far off since 90% of the time Ash would be fighting another trainer and Pikachu should have a 20% boost in EXP thanks to maxed amie stat.
