On a simulator, you don't have to train, you can change your team in seconds. If you're having trouble with something you can modify your team to handle it or just make a completely new team. This is something that can be done several hundreds times faster on a simulator than on cart, even if you're cheating.
And pretty much all the top players on smogon, who can make and modify teams without any effort, pretty much unanimously agreed mega mence is fucking overpowered as shit. Because it was.

No one who matters, the tourney players and mods, refuse to adapt or find counters to pokemon. They don't refuse to change their teams to accommodate new threats, and have no qualms with using them. If they seriously acted as you (and many others) describe, the banlist would surely be significantly larger than it is now.
