One of Ice's main problems is its lack of resistances/many weaknesses so I don't see how you can improve it without changing the type chart.

Stop using the worst defensive type in the game for slow, bulky pokemon.

Have Ice-types get defensive buffs in Hail like Rock/Ground/Steel types in Sandstorm. Honestly I have no idea why this isn't already a thing.

More Ice types on the level of Weavile or Mamoswine. This is the big one, the typing CAN work, just not for slow and bulky things

Give most Ice types get Freeze Dry and increase it to 80 BP

Hail increases defense of Ice types.

Introduce a new overpowered type ala Fairy

Make Ice types immune to it.
Also make poison resist it. Maybe Grass too.
Make it SE on Fairy, Water, Steel, Flying, and maybe Dragon just for the hell of it. We need it to be overpowered.
Don't make it weak to ice attacks, that only encourages other types to run ice moves. We're buffing ice types, not water and electric types who use ice moves.

Ice (and poison and grass) types get used more as actual Pokemon like how motherfucking fairy shoved Mr. Mime, Mawile, Gardevoir, and Clefable all up in usage from being mostly NU/UU trash. You'll basically need to have an ice or at least poison type on your team in order to function in the meta.

It gets old when GF haven't done anything of the sort since Gen 2. The closest they've done is remove some resistances in Gen 6 in order to nerf something.

Putting abilities like filter and thick fat would certainly go a long way toward improving them defensively. Also they could have items that apply only to them that raise their offense/defense presence.

Why would you want Icicle Crash when Ice beam is better in BP and in Accuracy ?
Why is Nidoking used as a Special Attacker while its Attack is 17 points higher than its Special Attack ? Because Elemental punches are shit.

Give them a secondary type, and make them fast to consolidate on their good stab, instead of slow where their vulnerabillities are magnified.

Think of what ice types are seen in OU and ubers
Mamoswine, frosslass, kyurem-b/w
they all have a secondary type, they are fast and offensive

Change the Freeze status to only lasting for 2 turns (3 in Hail) and getting undone by any offensive attack from a Pokemon other than the frozen one, but doing 1/16 Ice-type damage per turn, with only Ice Pokemon being able to inflict it anymore, and a Will-o-Wisp equivalent for freezing that only they can learn.

The thing most people don't realize is that giving a type an intrinsic ability is a pretty big change, and if one type got it all other would need to get one too, and depending on what other types got Ice coud see itself in a bad position again.

This is actually a pretty good idea, I always though GF was gonna roll something like that since gen 5

Although his could be really frustrating.
