I've been trying it out and the situations where it shines are really limited and mostly against not so great players. I've been watching my cousin play with it on showdown, too, but he refuses to actually build a team AROUND it - namely by packing something with stealth rocks or that can otherwise handle Talonflame - so it doesn't usually get him far. In fact in most of the games I've seen him win it never even comes out. But he insists it's not shit...

Hell, give it some poison moves PERIOD.
I got smugleaf in w2 and regretted it immediately, now he's the lowest level starter I have.

As someone who actually likes Serperior it requires too much specialization.

First off a vanilla Serperior is near garbage-tier for anything other than Coil abuse. So to get your money's worth you need to breed one for Glare inheritance. Then you need to channel your inner autist and give it Grass knot (because only an autist would bother to remember the weights of each pokemon).

After that make sure you invest ev/ivs into speed for your grass snake. Give it Gastro Acid for ability suppression and Dragontail for neutral coverage and saving your ass from getting fucked over by dragon and flying pokemon (if you can use glare before hand to cripple them that would be great also). Or you could give it Hidden power: Fire to deal with steel, grass and ice pokemon.

Overall Serperior should have never been a starter pokemon. Starters are supposed to be low maintenance and Serperior is clearly high maintenance.

Also Contrary is gimmicky as fuck, yeah it's nice to get a buff from intimidate but unless your opponent is throwing out a Krookodile or Salemence it's not going to really work in your favor (I'm not really sure if a attack buff with dragon tail will even kill a Salemence).
