Actually people can look past design if it works well in battle. See all the people saying they started liking Infernape after it did well for them in Gen 4. Look at anyone using Heatran.

The design for them isn't terrible. It's not overdesigned unlike most of the problems with Gen 4.

In Explorers of Sky if you feed her enough gummies she'll gain two very good abilities - one that shows the entire map and another that points the direction on where the stairs are.

In Explorers of Sky the legendaries who are part of the story are given genders. Mesprit is a girl in that game.

Gates to Infinity did that, too, and the Virizion you recruit is also female.

Yeah. The legendaries that took part of the story are the lake trio (Azelf is a guy, Mesprit is a hot-headed girl and Uxie is the old wise dude), Dialga (male), Palkia (male), Darkrai (male edgelord) and Celebi (female).

I didn't. Uxie is my bro (good trick room support/screens lead too), and Azelf is great lead and mix sweeper. They've fallen off a lot since gen 4, but I by no means hate them.

They're insipid. Just another floating Psychic legendary, nothing notable about them. No niche ability or typing, no standout movepool options (Azelf has some good moves, to be fair), and there's THREE of them.

Azelf has a cute design though. I like it, the blue looks good. The other two are meh.
