Welcome back to Pokemon Reborn! This is going to be a shorter update, since I haven't done much since the last thread.

Last time we fought off Mega Tangrowth and battled our way through Bulbapedia to find answers to get to Florinia. In this update, we take her on!

So before I get started on the proper gym battle, I want to show off two new pokemon in our possession.

First up is Swirlix, who we got from the Cotton Candy shop for solving a tile puzzle. I think you can actually get unlimited Swirlix's from this.

I did a bit of preparations for the battle, which included grinding up Pansear. Along the way, ColdSteel learned Sunny Day. Very useful for the upcoming battle.

First up is Maractus. This thing has Mega Drain and Nature Power, but also can set up Ingrain too.

I used Baggy to set up Toxic Spikes and then just Acid Spray'd my way until it fainted.

Thankfully, it doesn't use either of those things and Baggy's sludge manages to knock it out.

Now comes her ace. I switch to ColdSteel to regain Baggy's health again and to set up a Sunny Day to counteract her Sandstorm.

I should note that all of her pokemon have Nature Power and in the case of this battle, it is Sand Tomb.

Cradily's main gimmick is to set up a couple of Stockpiles and then spam Recover/Rock Throw at you. I'm 80% certain it has Storm Drain, though I never tested this out.

It took a few turns to take down, but the toxic spikes managed to circumvent both Cradily's Recover and Florina spamming Super Potions on Cradily.

Ferroseed was a pain in the ass to deal with. I had sacrificed Pansear in order to Play Nice Cradily's Rock Slide since it was doing a fair bit of damage. I ended up just using Noibat's Air Cutter, which seemed to do the job.

Last up was Cacnea. Baggy was able to sludge it in one hit.

I still had Kami, Timmy and Orphan in reserves, so I did much better in this fight than against Julia.

We now have a lot more pokemon available to us. The level cap has been lifted to 35, making a lot of evolutions possible.

I'm going to stop updating here, but I want the thread to decide if we want to make any changes to the team.

From my playing perspective:
Kami's the starter and has been solid. I think evolving it will make it even better.

Orphan has proven it's worth against Poison types and may come in handy later on. Psybeam + Charge Beam combo is working really well.

Baggy has really proven himself to be a team member, with Toxic Spikes and Sludge + Acid Spray combo working really well.

ColdSteel is about 2 or 3 levels from evolution. It's been decent, but hasn't really been hitting hard. We also have a lot of other grass options now available to us.

Timmy is probably the weakest link. He's not strong enough to take out most of the opposing pokemon in one hit and we are still going to be a while away from evolving him. He did recently get Air Cutter and his typing has proven useful, but I'm really struggling to make him work.

It's level has only gone up two, and with our new arsenal it should be far easier.

I actually had toxic spikes up, but drought activated Tangrowth' s Lead Guard. Use that Drought Vulpix carefully.

We can return to the Peridot Ward to get this, meaning that more merchandise unlocks. I'm hoping a scope lens for Breaker. Unfortunately, there isn't one for this sticker level, only stuff like Ring target and Metronome.

The animation actually makes looks like he's climbing down and not falling because of how slow it is, and he's using his walking animation.

This was a complete and utter failure to evoke any emotional response, except maybe anger in knowing that the devs thought they did a good job.

The most infuriating thing for me is hos literally all they need to do is get a competent writer. The game itself works, and is in fact pretty cleverly designed in difficulty.

That said about dialog, I have to say that giving your character a voice yet not forcing a personality onto a character is something of a challenge that I might forgive...were it not as atrocious as DR did it.
I mean, Custom Robo managed to pull off giving the MC a personality while also allowing him to be as much of a template as other protags with small things (How every choice has a third option that's funny, the part about his dad, his job hunt) to at least make him not a total cutout.
But perhaps that's just me.

This is always best done via dialogue choices.

Look at the SMT games. The characters are blank slates, sure, but you can see a sort of personality they lean towards with the choices you get in dialogue. P4 guy gets 'Calm down' a lot, to the extent where one of the requirements for the good end is to tell your party yo calm the fuck down, implying he's an excellent level-headed leader guy. P3 guy gets tons of sarcastic options mixed in with genuine concern, so he might be an abrasive, but nice guy. Strange Journey guy is always calm and collected as a trained soldier, and Devil Survivor 2 guy is a goofy fun jackass.

Really, though, I think this game does fine with just keeping you silent aside yes/no. Dark Rising was all-round bad.
