Thanks, ORAS Pokedex, for confirming that Mega Aerodactyl doesn't JUST get spikes.

You're not alone. I like vanilla Aero for what he is, but he's a very straightforward beast. Not a lot going on besides the baseline theme of "I am a pterosaur Pokemon".

Megadactyl is imposing, and looks like a right proper Rock/Flying type. Pretty solid in battle, too. Still wish it got Head Smash or Brave Bird, though.

I like the sideburns, eyebrows, and ears. The rest just don't look very aerodynamic for something that has base 150 speed. I don't have a problem with the spikes themselves, just how they were used.

If I may put on my bullshit pseudoscience goggles for a spell, the wing spikes may help to reduce turbulence at the leading edges of the wing somehow, or possibly something about "cutting" through air while flapping to reduce air resistance. The large back spike may aid in stability at high speeds, while the spikes on the tail may function similarly to the rudder on an airplane.

150 base speed doesn't mean it's a fast flyer. The speed stat doesn't correlate with top speed, but much more with reaction time and short-distance acceleration.

Are you sure it's named after Aerodactyl and it's not a coincidese? Aerodactylus makes a lot of sense etemology wise.
It's cool regardless of that though.

Kangaskhan was my mega early on but eventually I went around trying other megas. Always liked Aerodactyl, but its mega quickly made it climb to my top 3 favorites. Nigga puts in good work, and after playing it since late 2013 regular Aerodactyl just looks so naked and plain now, those rock eyebrows and muttonchops give it some personality.

Me too. Regular Aero is decently surprised, but I was surprised to see the Mega on the Dex size chart. Watch him scroll by near Gyarados, one of the larger Pokemon. Since his standing height is nearly 7 feet, his wingspan and body length are enormous. It's also cool that the Mega is so much more robust in proportion compared to the base form. Instead of having a somewhat scrawny body about the size of his head, he has a longer neck, more powerful build, and bigger tail.
