Going to replay ORAS. How can I make it more challenging (don't want to go full nuzlocke though). What are some self-imposed rules I could use to make it harder?

No legendaries.
No grinding.
Using only Pokemon you've never used before.
Battle type set.
No wonder trade.
No evolving Pokemon.
No held items or healing items.
Making monotype teams of less powerful types.
Playing B/W2 Hard Mode.
No gift Pokemon.
It's not that hard to think of ways to increase challenge, just do the opposite of what the game generally encourages.
inb4 Pokemon can't be hard.

How casual are you? It will not allow to switch pokemon before the enemy sends his next pokemon. It will be more like an online battle.

Avoid as many trainers as you possibly can. I did this once in LG before Nuzlocke was a thing and I had to face the league with my team in the late 30ties. Challenging but fun as fuck.

In my last BW run I used Emolga, Golurk, Cryogonal, Unfezant, Leavanny, stuff like that. Also, you can opt not to use Revives and such.
