So I finally got around to playing and beating Explorers of the Sky and holy shit that ending was twice as heartwrenching as the first one

Pokemon spinoff general anyone?

Do you just mean beating the main game, or the post game as well? Sky has some decent post game like red and blue, except it's more linear, and doesn't branch off in different ways.

It's got a few 99 floor dungeons, none of them are main dungeons related to the story though, so if they are not your thing then fortunately you're not forced to go to them.

Oh no, I liked the 99 floor dungeons, but goddamn they got nervewracking after 10 straight floors of monster houses and running out of max elixirs.

They can be fun, as long as you're lucky with the items. I think most of the 99 dungeons in sky have some kind of restriction (like starting from lvl 1 or starting with no items) if not all of them.

OP here, Since i've beaten Blue and now Sky, i'm thinking about getting Gates.

I heard it isn't that great compared to the others, but is it still worth the play?

Some are sad, Grovyle episode gave me a feeling of loneliness, and sadness because the mission is to make a new future and yours is going to disappear. Bidoof was about proving yourself, and he goes by himself in a dungeon.
Loudred and Sunflora have a fight in their episode that leads to them splitting up near the boss battle. It is filled with sad feels near the beginning or middle but then it gets filled with hope and friendship at the end.
