I've been planning to use pic related in a gen 1 run. Maybe with best dragon instead of Aerodactyl.

I'm interested in exploring each gen's metas and playing with ancient gems that have fallen behind as time passed.

Who were the big threats of gen 2? I expect Blissey and TTar to be up there.

I was honestly convinced it had to be a planned shiny encounter, like Red Gyrados, because of the pollution spiel.

Yellow allows you to get all starters, updates the sprites, and adds Jessie and James as the "Admin" type antagonists.

a combination of defensive/mean look-toxic-perish song trapping and hyper offense with swords dance passing, works pretty well on the Battle Tower too depending on which strategy you wish to use.

so how exactly did the metagame for gen 2 work? I keep hearing that it was about stalling but I have trouble imagining that.

Well "the metagame" is more revolved around breaking stall, or breaking your opponents defenses rather than stalling per say. The thing is that everything is hella bulky with max Stat Experience and full DVs and alot things get away with running a resttalk set (sleep talk can pick rest just fyi). In the gen 2 meta you actually have to think to get KOs, you don't just spam high power dragon choice moves and just nuke something like in later gens, it works slower and you need a solid game plan to actually win while also being able to not let your opponent win. Think of gsc more like a game of chess.

Btw, there's a couple of good top tier tournament battle narrations on a youtube channel called CallousNarrates, might want to check out some games from there, watching a couple of battles shows a good variety of how battles can drag out, how teambuilding works, etc. The narrator isn't the best but he's a good guy. There's also some more recent battles on the net, if you want i can link you some, even though that'd probably stretch it out a bit lmoa

I am loving the random gen 1 feature they put on Showdown recently and played a lot of it. I have teams for gen 1/2 but I rarely opponents, sadly.
Probably gen 1 random is the only "tier" I'm half decent at, probably because I remember the mechanics, while sometimes there are people who are caught off guard by a lot of stuff.
