Curious what everyone thinks are the GOAT towns, and the worst.

For me:

Best is Ecruteak (pic related). I loved gen 2, tempted to say Goldenrod, but Ecruteak just had such a cool atmosphere, felt like a historic place.

Worst in my opinion is Verdanturf. Just feels totally pointless to me.

I don't really have a worst. Fuschia City's layout is terrible but I don't hate it. Lumiose is kind of a clusterfuck as well with the weird camera angles and shit but I don't hate it.

Avoidable, but still could be annoying. The rock smash to enter Safari Zone shit didn't help either.

Favorites: Olivine City and Lumiose City for very different reason.

I usually don't support the use of buzzwords but Olivine City is really comfy. I love the music and the fact that it's a harbor town since I'm living in one myself. If I was transported to the Pokemon world, I'd definitely live in Olivine. It's also the home town of my waifu Jasmine.

Lumiose City is one of my two favorites just because of the sheer amount of stuff there is to do. First it was quite overwhelming but eventually I got used to the size of the place and now I love it. I personally don't have any problems with the camera so there's nothing that I can really complain about. It's just at the edge of being too big but that's exactly the reason why it's so awesome.

I personally don't think any of the boring towns should be worst. Sure there are places Oldale that have zero content, but there's no reason to dislike them, they're just pointless. There's only one city that I actually dislike and that's Coumarine City. Why? Because of the fucking monorail. Everything that makes you come back to the town is at the non-Poke Center side of the city meaning that you can't directly fly there. You want your TM from that girl? Monorail. You want to be an incense? Monorail. You want to get your daily berry for whatever reason? lol monorail. Splitting cities into multiple parts should only be done if it's executed properly (such as Lumiose City where there are three Pokemon Centers so you don't always have to go through the entire city).

Favourite is that train town on BW. It took my ages to work out how to get there without looking it up online and when I did it was ultra comfy.

Worst is the majority of 4th gen towns, they're mostly forgetable

in xy I save in a house in snowbelle, you can make a girl play a piano song from an older gen for 1000$

in the older games I mostly just stayed on pokemon centers or on specific routes / grottos hunting for hidden ability mons or rare encounter monsters
favorite town of all time is probably goldenrod I fucking loved the slots & that retarded voltorb game

I really like Anville Town in the Unova games for the cool design even though there's literally no point to go there, but it's just a little side area anyway. I like Ecruteak just because of all of the background lore with the burned and tin / bell towers.

Worst is Coumarine in terms of design because of the god damn monorail if you want to buy incenses, or Oldale for having no purpose.

Honestly some of my favorite towns come from Sinnoh. Jubilife had that great night theme, the clowns, the TV station. Oreburgh had the catchy theme, the mine, the fossil museum. Hearthome had the Pokemon Contests, that weird church thing, Fantina. Solaceon had that comfy music, the ruins on the side, the cemetery right beneath it, and the Day Care. Veilstone had that rough-and-tumble atmosphere with the Game Corner, the Team Galactic HQ, the Fighting-type gym. Celestic town was pretty nondescript, but it had that mysterious cavern and the defog route right before it, which is one of my favorite routes to date. Canalave had that library with muh lore, the creepy inn where the fullmoon event takes place, and the bit of French atmosphere to it. Sunyshore was as unconventional as you could get (before ORAS Mauville City), what with the elevated paths and that light house. And how could anyone forget Snowpoint City. The only towns that really felt boring were Floaroma Town (literally nothing but flowers and a boring theme to boot), Eterna City (which always felt like a drag for some reason, even though I like the town theme for it), and Pastoria City, which still has some distinguishing features like the Great Marsh.

Can't really think of a worst to be honest, though Sinnoh's towns weren't too memorable for me. Verdanturf existed to buff out the region and host Wally's extended family, so I appreciate it for the worldbuilding.

Vermilion City is my favorite city in Kanto. There's nothing really remarkable about the city itself, but the Gen I music is fucking great. I love it. It makes me imagine walking into this massive port town IRL, where there's color everywhere, Pokemon loading ships, people and sailors walking and talking, and adventure to be found in any direction. Pallet Town is a close second. Say what you want about me being a genwunner or nostalgia fag, but Pallet Town's music gives me some major feels. Makes me tear up sometimes, not even gonna lie.

Goldenrod is my favorite Johto city, and probably my favorite city out of all of them. I don't even have the words to adequately convey how much I love that place, both the city and the music. It's just like, you start off in New Bark town, this dinky, homey little place, and then you make it to Cherrygrove City. Cherrygrove is a bit bigger, but nothing to write home about, especially since you're still so close to home. You make it to Violet City, which is impressive, but still sort of homey, then to Azalea, which is almost even more homey and cozy than Newbark, and then you go through Ilex Forest and up Route 34, and then BOOM. Goldenrod. Goldenrod is a REAL city. Just picture that, really imagine yourself at the entrance on Route 34. The music just makes it even better. It starts off almost like a town theme, kind of slow and slightly upbeat, building to this fast pasted, really upbeat tune, but at the same time keeping it's homey sound. To me it's almost like "you're in the big city, but you're still home". I love it.

I like Slateport's vibe the best out of all the Hoenn towns/cities, but I'm not crazy about the music. Littleroot is top-tier as far as starting towns go, the music and entrance were really well done in ORAS, couldn't have asked for a better job, made me tear up.

Nothing in Gen 4 really stood out to me. The towns have great music, especially that sexy saxophone at night in Jubilife, but the towns themselves weren't that impressive IMO.

Gen 5 and 6 were pretty much that same for me. Castelia City was really cool graphically, but nothing else from either gen really popped for me.

Rustboro City, hard to pinpoint why exactly, It's certainly got a unique industrial look that makes it stand out to me, and in both Emerald and Alpha Sapphire I put my secret base just north of it, meaning I'd see this town often. Also Roxanne is one of the cooler Hoenn gym leaders.

Oldale Town, what can I say? It is the worst offender of the Cherrygrove styled towns in the series. The most basic and boring of town designs in the entire series and again, no reason to ever come here after your first visit unless you're just passing through.

Does Village Bridge count? Because that place was amazing. If not, Opelucid City. I loved how B/W and B2/W2 made a bigger effort than any other generation to make version differences more prominent, and this city is a good example of that. I went with White and White 2 during that gen so naturally I'll go with the version of the city in those games. Iris is a QT.

Lets just go with Accumula Town. Not as bad as Cherrygrove or Oldale (it at least has a nice view and those musicians) but not much going for it either.

Snowpoint City. I could spend a whole hour talking about how much I love the city. It's cold and full of snow, which I love. It's small and probably everyone knows each other. It's very quiet because snow silences footsteps, you could probably have the best sleep in there because it's so peaceful. It has it's own share of lore with Snowpoint Temple, which houses the Regiboss. The music is the comfiest stuff ever. It's next to the route with the best route music in the game. And most important, the cuttest Sinnoh gym leader lives there and she's friends with the second cutest. What's not to love?

I don't really have a disliked town, haven't played XY so I don't know how good or bad they are. Comes to mind Mistralton since it's not a town, just a glorified airport.

Lilycove has always been one of my favourites.
I was big into contests when I first played Ruby, so I was always there for the master rank stuff. I loved that gigantic contest hall. I tend to gravitate towards the cities with the department stores. I always loved Goldenrod City and Celadon City for that reason. Also adored Hearthome city for a long time. Couldn't get enough of Amity Square.
I never really liked Canalave city. It just felt so far away from everything. I sort of actively avoided it for a while for some reason. It's just an odd little city that seems so out of place.

With HGSS I honestly can't decide between Ecruteak or Goldenrod because they're both so damn good, but overall I'd say Goldenrod. Cianwood is shit and it feels like a disappointing dead end that slaps you in the face until the remakes.

I can't decide between Slateport or Lilycove because they're both big comfy places with great music and would both be nice to live at. Though Slateport would get a lot of tourism from other regions since it's a sprawling marketplace with a harbor and a massive beach. Least would be Fortree for being underwhelming or Dewford for the same shit as Cianwood. The music does not help. I find Steven, grab whatever Pokemon I need from the cave if possible, take on Brawly and get the fuck out of this place as fast as possible.

Didn't even need to think for this one. Motherfucking Hearthome City has fun lively music and one of my all time favorite tracks, contests, which I absolutely loved in Gen IV, Poffin house, a nice Ghost gym with a real challenge and Vanity Square to make it objectively the best place to ever live in Sinnoh. The only thing I'd change would be the the building meant to pray for the souls of Pokemon, it feels too somber in contrast. I actually don't hate any city in Sinnoh, but I'd say Pastoria simply because the city itself isn't that good besides the best gym.

Castelia was amazing in concept, but so disappointing in execution, but I've loved its music since the moment I heard it. Virbank quickly became my favorite location track for Gen V and it has a nice area to train and catch Pokemon. Is Anville fucking shit? It's fucking shit.
