Since you nerds might as well be romhack general as far as /vp/ is concerned:

I've been trying to get FireRed Omega to work with the Moemon revival project. So far, I can get the game to boot but a handful of the front sprites are still glitchy versions of the default sprites. I patched Moemon and then Omega, and the sprites work fine when it's just Moemon.

Does Omega change any sprites or is there something else going on?

Omega does change some of the sprites. You'll have to manually insert the sprite hombre.

It's the only usable shiny I've ever gotten, caught him as makuhita in the last thread. It's legit, unless you don't play the shiny clause. That being, if you beat the odds and get a shiny encounter it's catchable, but if you already had a catch on that route to release the other.

I got ya covered Anon. There's a few different hacks that do this. There's Pokemon Gold Hard Mode found here:

There's also a few different crystal hacks out there. One of them that comes to mind is Crystal Enhanced Version. There's even a TVtropes page on that if you're curious. It's one of the more difficult ones I know of just from sheer level difference and Pokemon changes.

One last one I can think of is Pokemon Crystal Kaizo if you're into that kind of stuff. I personally don't find it as hard as Crystal Enhanced but it's worth a shot to be entertaining right?

i have a weird policy on breeding. in my emerald nuzlocke, i found a pikachu in the safari zone holding a light ball. after a slot opened up on my team before the elite four, i bred the pikachu so i could get a pichu with volt tackle. i never ended up using the pikachu i caught in the safari zone, just the pichu i bred. that's the only time i've bred in a nuzlocke so far, and that's probably the only situation i'd do it in, something where you might get a move yo wouldn't get otherwise, or something like that. replacing a team member who recently died kind of cheapens the experience of their death. if you can just mass produce team mates where's the risk in losing anyone? i'd advise against it.

Well, that was merely Sprout Tower, early in the game, but those were:
Marco, a lvl 10 Chikorita... My starters never survive long, but man!
Crabs the Krabby, quite robust, but also lvl 10, and
Anon, a lvl 11 Zubat. Quite fragile, but I was hoping I'd keep him alive until evolution. Well I was wrong.
To be frank, I was underleveled, because I forgot this was a difficulty hack, and a lvl 12 Teddiursa nearly wiped me with an Uproar.

Why so nuzlocke?
I tried Alpha Red FOUR times already
I lost 3 times, but the thing is...
nothing I'm doing is really memorable.
My only story is...
Angrir, Breaker of Souls. That weird Swallow pokemon killed two of my pokemon before his lvl 15 ass was caught with a standard pokeball while still at full health. I named him after Ben Grim when he took the hammer of the worthy. But that was my very first nuzlocke challenge and nothing memorable has happened since. And I still lost that game when I blacked out against those two magma grunts in the museum.

so why do you nuzlocke? am I doing something wrong? I'm naming my pokemon, I'm following all the rules... why isn't this nearly as fun or memorable.

What are some fangames or romhacks with gameplay as their emphasis?

I'm looking for stuff like Reborn, with tons of content and.or difficulty. Horribad story and cringeworthy writing is a plus and not a negative, by the way. Just needs steep level curve so we're fighting full-powered mons with full-powered mons soon.

Starter mons like Bulbasaur and Froakie should be available early game, since I want to build teams around them.

Freaking Guy had a Skarmory, Gligar, Aerodactly, and Mantine! But I won!
I luckily sent out Nostro first and he sent out Skarmory. He then sends in Aero and I switch to Franklin. I landed a crit watergun. Next come mantine, I send out Splinter. And then Franklin comes back out to defeat his Gligar.

So I'm trying a different type of nuzlocke out. Basically, it's a glorification nuzlocke
The rules are as follows:
> standard nuzlocke rules
> a pokemon in your team basically becomes the chosen one and holds this title until it dies
> the chosen one must always be first in the party
> all his other lackeys must be 3 levels below him for the minimum and are not allowed to use recovery items(potions etc.)
> if the chosen one dies. Another lackey on the team must take his place

I'm thinking of adjusting the level difference. Should it be 5 levels or more?

Does using an emulator with a speed up button invalidate a nuzlocke run?I have tried to run Omega Red with the speed up button but it feels like I'm cheating.When I speed up I can over level in just a few minutes and no trainer even with the increased difficulty stands a chance.

I like the romhacks but damn they're hard to nuzlocke and I almost never grind.

I've honestly only ever beat Fire Red and HG regular in a nuzlocke before, probably because they're easy and therefore don't require much grinding.
