Objectively, Gen 1 had no other generations to jockey against at the time, but I know that's not what you mean.

I'm gonna say Gen V. Being released on the DS was a double edged sword; it got a little stagnant after playing DPPtHGSS on the same console, but at the same time, it meant they had time to flesh out aspects of the game they never focus on much, like the story, or the achievement medals. If you take it completely out of context, it was a very well rounded and enjoyable gen.

Or did you mean something else? For example, Gen 2 was extremely impressive for a GBA game, it was pretty monumental considering the hardware at the time.

Honestly, it's either in the top tier or in the "meh" tier. There's no in-between. They had a concept, but whether or not you think they nailed it determines where it falls. Personally, I try to look at the intent behind the designs and factor that into my decisions. Context means everything.

Your arguments are valid, but they stem from its movepool and battle viability. I was asked to rank them purely on design. It's design integrates elements from snakes, ivy leaves, and royalty, which compliment each other nicely. I'm not a big fan of Serperior, personally, but I recognize that its design is exceptionally fitting.

Their original team was skilled at assembly language, which deals almost directly with the hardware. It's a very difficult and very powerful programming language. But most of their original crew are now directing, not programming themselves. I bet the people working on it now are working with higher level languages, which can do very fancy things, but at greater cost to performance. They're probably not fucking with assembly at all anymore, so it's not as smooth as, say, Smash. I guarantee you that the team for Smash was working with performance foremost in mind. GameFreak was going for release speed first and foremost.

DLC is an awful practice that encourages capitalism to a parasitic degree and should never be looked upon favorably. When you buy a game, it should be finished. You'd never buy a sofa with a cushion missing at full price, and then pay extra for the other cushion. You'd never go to a concert and be expected to pay extra for every song after the encore.

I don't think it will happen, and I don't want it to. I'd love to have the battle frontier, but it would be a "win the battle and lose the war"situation.

To match the couch example, it's more like buying a couch, setting it up at home, then deciding that a nice throw pillow would make the set look better and going out and buying one. It doesn't take away from the functionality of the couch, but it's something you believe makes it complete.

Except that only applies to specific examples and isn't inherently what DLC is (unless DLC in this context is disk locked content not downloadable content)? You can have DLC that adds content that wasn't there in the first place, that's what it all originally was.

The Maison dialogue has some weird shit, but it's kind of enjoyable.

Megas are interesting. GameFreak doesn't have a good idea of their own game though, leading to stuff like Mega Mom and M-Houndoom. I swear they just try stuff and hope for the best. But they did make battles more interesting for a while. When eventually every Pokemon has a Mega, we'll see how it looks.

Regions like Hoenn and Sinnoh have a huge sweeping variety of climates and ecosystems, and that's very cool. But Johto has something that's just as important: consistency. Everywhere in Johto feels like Johto. It's all got the same rural vibe. Even the biggest city has a forest right outside of it and train tracks splitting it down the middle.

Meanwhile, you take like ten steps out of Mauville and you're either in a fucking desert or on the beach or in a mountain tunnel or in a rainforest.

The main thing about BW2 was the Pokemon World Tournament. That's basically what had everyone creaming their unmentionables. The medal achievement system was nice too, and so was the movie studio thing.

I kinda preferred the atmosphere of BW1 though. BW2 felt a little too glitzy for me.

Diamond and Pearl were painfully slow and weren't as memorable as gens 1-3, but they were mostly fixed in Platinum. The gen as a whole is pretty solid. It's withstanding the test of time pretty well.

I dislike all of the genies, their therian formes didn't do a thing to redeem them in my book. They're ugly sameface cloudfags. See, when they were first introduced, nobody liked them. Everyone agreed that they were stupid looking and that Unova didn't need another trio. But then everyone realized that they're really fucking powerful.

What this means is that everyone who used the genies was only playing to win, regardless of whether or not they even liked those Pokemon. The hypercompetitive players are an issue because Pokemon isn't meant to be a competitive game, it's not an e-sport. The RNG and IVs should be enough evidence that Pokemon was never meant to be competitive in the way that some people make it.

If I had a uterus, I'd be demanding your babies. This is my precise feeling toward most legendaries, but the genies in particular. Sure, some legendaries people may actually like, but I feel like they don't have that connection to them that you get from bringing a bro through most of the game, since they tend to only pop up near endgame.

Busting your ass to create nothing but a bunch of lines of code in a video game. The best trainer is the one who wins. Battling skill is what makes a trainer in the competitive scene. It doesn't matter how you got your Pokemon.

Its still easy to get attached to Pokemon and there's nothing wrong with it. However thinking you're a good trainer because you spent time on some virtual pets is pretty laughable. Its a video game its not real life.

If you want to play competitive you don't have to want to win but don't complain when you come across people who want to win.

Why shouldn't Ash have won the DPPbowl and gone to Unova as a complete unknown anyway, since they made a big deal of establishing just how isolated from the rest of the world/regions Unova was. It's separation was the perfect excuse for Ash not being a celebrity there, and they could have incorporated HG/SS into his Elite 4 Challenge just like FR/LG got incorporated into the Battle Frontier Arc.
