The glorious thing about Volcarona is that you know EXACTLY what it's going to do, but you can't stop it 70% of the time.

Slap Quiver Dance/Fiery/Giga Drain/Buzz if you want a full offense set. A fantastic late to mid game sweeper once you get rid of the visible hard counters.

Or you can give it some HP investment and make it bulky with Roost since Volcrona has surprisingly high SpD.

Nope, Volcarona is called the Sun Pokemon in the Pokedex. Several dex entries say that it replaced the sun during freezing winters and times when volcanic ash blocked out the sun, and the Relic Castle implies that ancient Unovans venerated Volcarona. You find two Sun Stones in the place too.

Nah, HP+Speed or HP+SpA

Volcarona is better at revenge sweeping than trying to tank two hits, from something physical nonetheless. The HP investment will help greatly with getting 2+ QD's off if you're not running Roost.

Personally I like the strait up Speed+SPA for a quick sweep and for mid-speed scarfers (after +1) and basically all scarfers (after +2). Bug Buzz and Fiery for raw STAB, and either Hurricane, Giga Drain or Psychic for coverage.

Only thing that will halt you is Heatran at that point.

Actually, no Mega Volcarona. Alder's just a bonus boss. Ghetsis was the de facto champion in BW, and as such Hydreigon gets the mega instead.

But if Game Freak keeps pushing Mega Evolutions on more and more older Pokemon like they had fucking better, they'll give each Pokemon League member a Mega for their signature Pokemon, which means Alder will as well. Zoroark might also get a Mega as N's signature Pokemon while whatever Reshiram or Zekrom gets is still used. It would be a little more challenging.
