The Saffron City Gate Keeper can't be bought with fresh water, soda pop, or lemonade in FRLG. There is literally no indication that you need to seek out that random old lady for tea, which im pretty sure wasn't in the original game.

It's not in the original but there are NPCs outside of Celdadon that say something along the lines of, "I was thirsty, but that old lady in that building gave me tea!"

In Good RPGs I do.
Not in RPGs where almost every NPC is just going to say some boring shit like "Did you know you can buy pokeballs?" or "My Nidoran won't sit still, oh you crazy nidoran"

Pokemon's NPCs have sure more interesting or funny things to say, plus most of the times they give you free stuff like items or TMs
