I did this actually on my second play through on X with PkHeX

After every gym battle I downgraded my parties level by 5 (10 by the time I got to Pokemon League)

It's fucking insane, the game suddenly becomes hard

I mean at least wait until late game to evolve your pokemon. My policy will be 4 badges allows for you to go to middle evolutions, and 8 badges grants you third stage evolutions. Five pokemon max, if there is a sixth it's strictly for HMs and never battles ( so like a normal playthrough then).

Makes battles more intense when it's even, and you encounter something that might be able to take down your whole team.

Did this on my first run of ORAS.
During the final battle with Steven, entire party had fainted except one, and I would of lost the battle if Steven hadn't used Giga Impact which resulted in him skipping a turn which let me me get two free attacks on him and win the battle.

And people bitched about GS's level curve when it was ok to me and a bit harder when I got to Lance. And I guess when you find Red gamefreak wanted you to get BTFO
