Then the tsunami happened and the anime went to hell and a handbasket. From that point on, the anime was horrible. Goofy TR returned and the anime had to jettison anything that they had for the plot.
Not that it was good to begin with, because despite the early hype, warning signs had emerged.
For instance, the overuse/abuse of Attract, Ash's pikachu being reset and losing to a fucking Snivy, Ash's incompetency battling, Ash bungling Oshawott and the abortion that was the first time facing Trip, Ash never winning one of those tournaments, the lackluster rival appearances, the mishandling of Axew and it's dream of evolving and then never evolving, Unfezant, the four appearances of Palpitoad, Iris, Iris' Dragonite, Ash's battling strategies, Ash misusing pokemon in battles, Ash and type mismatches, Unfezant, the lackluster Plasma arc, N's lack of expression, Ash's battle with Giovanni, Vic Mangina voicing an anime character, and Cameron.
Throw in that Ash goes from knocking out two legendary pokemon in a loss in Sinnoh to losing to a guy with 5 pokemon (whom also had a Hydreigon despite being the biggest piece of dumbass shit in the world) who then got roflstomped by a dude with a team of eeveelutions.
It was a fucking disaster.
