I'm trying to EV a Heatran to take fighting-type attacks (Terrakion CC, Kangaskhan, Hammer Arm Mega Metagross) with Chople Berry by putting some investment in HP and Defense.

Is it worth it? I'm going with Timid to outspeed adamant max speed Bisharp, but after running some calcs, a Close Combat from Terrakion still does around 60-70%. The spread I'm currently using (52HP) takes 67-80% from the same attack.

I've been using almost entirely Trick Room teams for the last year. To me, the three things you need are:
1. A plan to set it up (I really like Scrafty with Eject Button. Ideally, you can intimidate them and Fake Out to stop them doing anything to your setter, then take a hit and be switched out to your trick room sweeper right when Trick Room goes up.
2. A trick room sweeper. Usually people use Mega Abomasnow, Mega Camerupt etc. but there are tonnes of hideously strong slow Pokémon. I've even seen Mega Garchomp used in Trick Room. Priority is helpful to clean up after Trick Room ends too.
3. A backup plan. Usually a fast mode, which can deal with things that commonly beat the Pokémon you chose for the Trick Room side of the team.

To other people in the NuggetBridge Major: Is it just me or is Battlefy absolutely awful? Each page takes about a minute to load, there's now way to see your opponent's profile without going to the player list first, the player list's search doesn't work so the only way to find them is to load all 1300 competitors and use ctrl+f, and it doesn't even send an email telling you who your opponent is, or which flight you were placed in at the start.

Not in the Major but I've had the same problems with it in the past. I don't know why they use it at all. It isn't hard to make a programme to process and export the relevant info into a spreadsheet to upload on Googledocs or something, would probably be easier for the players then.

I had a similar issue for some time, but recently I've found the TR matchup easier when I'm not trying to prevent there setup but to play with it by having some TR viable mons like Amoonguss or Conkeldurr in the party. Generally going for bulkier sets is also pretty helpful. In general I think Bulk > Speed is the way to build with so much opposing speed control.

Just lost 2-1 to Wolfe in the Nugget Bridge Major. His Banette really was quite a big problem.
It was running WoW/Disable/Protect/Pain Split.
I don't understand though, Sableye gets all four of those, can use an item, doesn't take up a mega slot, fewer weaknesses, with the only downsides being it has a weakness to fairy and has 18 less Special Defence.

I think the rationale chosen for switching from challonge was that Battlefy was able to handle larger tournaments more efficiently, but yeah, it's not the great of a site. Firestorm being an employee of theirs definitely influenced the switch heavily.

Sign ups for the International challenge are open, I don't think the 50000 slots will fill up anytime soon, if at all, so there's no rush for those interested. Registration ends on the 26th.
This competition will have the proper VGC timer (90 second team preview and 45 second turn select) so could be good experience for those which haven't played under those conditions yet.

I've been using Rotom-H/Suicune/Ferrothorn to great success recently. I had Terrakion on the team so the more anti-Sylveon/Rain choice for me was Ferro but I think Virizion could really put in some good work.

Being outsped by other landorus isn't that big of a deal. Swathes of people are speed creeping Adamant Lando-T so if you're not running Jolly it might be time to start cutting back on a bit of speed and attack for bulk.

I've tried virizion a little and I'm not impressed. It was either that or breloom, because I wanted something for bisharp and milotic and other bulky waters. Virizion is nice that is more immediately threatens kang, but it struggles to 2HKO milotic.

Milotic can have less bulk, Talonflame could run something else that isn't WoW, and it could also set up Tailwind for you, Metagross should be jolly, Gengar can be your support mon, it's way better at it than Talonflame and maybe even Whimsicott.

Let me tell you something you shithead, you're wasting eight of your EVs there. You could have ONE stat point higher if you went 252/252/4, or even TWO stat points higher if you went 252/244/4/4/4.
I really can't believe you fucked it up that bad, how can you possibly think that that was the best way to do it?
Let me explain, At level 50 you need 8 EVs to gain a stat point, but because it rounds up, having 8x-4 gives the same boost as having 8x.
Since you're giving it a multiple of 8EV in two stats, you're completely wasting eight of your EVs! How can you not get this after I've posted it so many times? I swear to god if you do this one more time I will find out where you live and beat you to death with your own 3DS.
And where did you even get this EV spread? Because Showdown told you to do that? Because Showdown thinks you're going to get toxiced, or use leftovers or substitute? Well fuck Showdown, it works at level 100, while VGC works at level 50. If you don't understand that you deserve to fuck off out of my thread. I'll have you know I have over 2000 confirmed wins and qualified for worlds twice, and people like you ruin it with this shit.

I've had good luck with overheat talonflame, getting surprise KOs while intimidated on metagross and the popular physically defensive amoonguss. you could shift those HP evs into sp atk and use a naive nature. of course, physical talonflame is solid, its just an idea but I would try it out, its fun. team seems sorta frail overall but if it works for you, that's what matters

Terrakion actually has quite a few interesting choices for a 4th move. The support of hail is a way bigger deal than power of its attacks, though they both have very similar damage output anyway. Also Aurorus has moves like Earth Power to hit steels while Abomasnow can never really run EQ well, I think it will have a nice niche

Not many. Only 3 abilities are even affected by hail, one of which is forecast (Casform's ability) and the other two are ice body (think rain dish but for hail) and snow cloak which increases evasion by 25%.

It's not so much about the abilities but about getting strong Blizzards and disrupting Sun, Sand and Rain. Hail's probably less relevant now since access to really strong great typed spread, without the drawbacks EQ and Surf, is found in the form of Hyper Voice on a handful of mons while the disruption isn't as useful now. I don't see why Hailroom can't make a comeback though, and I think Aurorus could be a decent hail setter should it be released.

I'd say Bulky DD or Bulky Roost
Bonus points if your team looks like it would benefit from Y at first glance.

While not as effective in a Bo3 scenario what helps ZardX are its new resistances, you can bait Electric moves or things like that only to end up resisting the hit while getting a DD off.

Since its offensive stats are similar you can fit Overheat in there for some surprises.

I've had some fun with a SD set which had Tailwind/IcyWind/TWave support. I figured that SD was the one thing it could do that Salamence couldn't so was probably the thing to focus on. Of course the different typing and burn immunity have there own benefits in the right place as well.

Also does exiting during the find match (before a match is found) make you lose points? I went on to see my current rank, backed out, did a game sync and went to global link to see my rank and it says I'm 1741 now. That's just it being slow to update, right? 60 points is way more than one game's worth of DC penalty

Not to mention Blizzard still has that Freeze chance, while Hyper Voice has no additional effect. I'd still probably want Refrigerate, though, since Blizzard is still dependent on the weather and running Snow Warning means you miss out on silly things like Ice Hyper Beam.

What's with the random speed IVs on Conk?
Rock slide should only be used on conk if you're running trick room, as you miss out on flinching otherwise. You can probably keep it because you already have three pokemon that have ice type moves (megagross, zapdos and swampert) but just keep that in mind.

I would recommend changing the hydreigon to a scarf variant like this:
Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
44 HP / 252 SpA / 212 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power

If you decide to stay with LO, then Fire Blast > Flamethrower. You're missing out on a lot of 2HKOs by not using it.

Where's the EV spread for Rotom-H?

What does your team need wide guard support for? Half of your team is already immune to EQ and half of your team resists rock slide

Zapdos is eh, what do you really need tailwind for? Consider replacing with thundurus for taunt and thunder wave support

I think they were used to underspeed Aegislash to OHKO it with Knock Off. Rock Slide is just for Charizard and Talonflame switch ins, which I otherwise have trouble with. I might end up switching to Ice Punch if I decide to keep EQ on Gross. For Hydreigon, I don't really like Choice items at all, so I'll just stick to LO. Fire Blast seems like it should be a good change. I...forgot Rotom's spread, but I remember it was full bulk with no sp. attack. Good point about Wide Guard; I had it mostly because Sylveon was really pissing me off with Conk and Drei killed by it, but Protect would probably be better. Zapdos is mostly because I don't have a calm, timid, or bold thundurus, and I don't have the ability to inject at the minute. Might end up changing Tailwind for Heat Wave though.

That's what I did when I hit a slump, playing with a completely different style helps to reinvigorate the game for you, and you learn a bit about that style (counters, strategies, etc)

Imo I think SpAtk is better because:
- A lot of people expect it to be Atk based, and use Will-o-wisp.
-Doesn't insta-die after a close combat
-STAB Flash Cannon is far superior to innacurate Iron tail
-Vacuum Wave is imo a better priority attack than bullet punch in OU due to how common Bisharps/Kangeskhans etc are

Me: Choice Specs Hydreigon and Thundurus.
Opponent: paralyzed Dragonite and mega Aerodactyl.

All I had to do was Draco Meteor the Dragonite and TBolt the Aerodactyl.

I came up with a fun and effective offensive Cresselia set that I've been running, and I wanted to share it.

Cresselia @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Bold Nature
- Icy Wind
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Moonblast

The evs are to ohko 4/0 Hydreigon with moonblast, but you can also run a bit more bulk to take physical attacks better. On the special side, this thing is a monster:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Cresselia: 116-140 (51.1 - 61.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
The only things that can stop it are physical nukes like Bisharp and Kangaskhan, both of which are easily dealt with fast fighting types like Terrakion. You can also run Shadow ball or Energy ball to suit your team better, or an Expert belt variant, though I have not tried that yet.
So far it has worked pretty well and is usually the last one on the team to die, while it deals important chip damage to setup kos for other mons.

anyone else think rock slide should be nerfed? the finals of two regionals this season were pretty inarguably decided by rock slide flinches. its just kinda lame as a viewer to watch the whole event, then see someone get blown out by hax. its also lame as a player to experience it

So I can manage to avoid the OHKO from M-Mawile aswell, but that takes about 60 EVs out of Spa into Def which leaves me with 252 HP / 84 Def / 72 SpA / 100 SpD

Adamant 31-IV, to try and outspeed slow things?

Regarding Trick Room, i used a team based on that strategy on VGC 14 with Chandelure and Aromatisse as my setters. Im not sure about Chandelure but, is Aromatisse still "usable" besides its Aroma Veil? Im mostly talking about its bulk.

It's really awful when I've got aromatisse and sableye out because neither of them are gonna be stopped by tauntshit. Maybe it'd work better paired with a gengar or something though, for perish trap?

Lum berry, magic coat, fake out, priority, insomnia :^), etc. DV Smeargle itself isn't hard to beat, the main trouble comes in defeating it's partner, who's most likely build to protect Smeargle. Even Khanartist is still a viable and terrifying strategy in the hands of a good player.
