I hope that they're smart enough in-game to dodge on their own, unlike the anime Pokémon that apparently need their Trainer's command to do so.

I was always under the impression that anime pokemon don't dodge on their own because they are trained to follow commands no matter what.

Maybe the trainer has some crazy plan involving you getting hit, or using the enemy's attack against him. But the Pokemon's job is to just follow the orders, and not just assume you're supposed to dodge stuff.

That's how I always excused it when I was a kid anyway.

Pokemon have "energy", like the anime pokemon Dodge some moves in the beginning but after a couple of turns the pokes get tired and get hit.

Bulkier pokes lose energy faster and shit

Keep the core formula on handhelds. Experience with new ideas on consoles. Nintendo has the cash, they just would rather waste it on mobile games and stupid spinoffs like Trozei, Rumble Blast, Shuffle, etc. Just look at Genius Sonority's list of titles and weep.
